Sorry for the short notice, but I'm going to be playing with Nikulydin in Boston at the famous Lizard lounge. Thanks guys for having me. EGW is going to join me. We'll play the first set and then sit in with Nikulydin for the rest of the evening. I can't find the link of the Lizard Lounge, but I did find this:

....by chance i happened to see a listing for this, and decided there couldn't be more than one howard moscovitz playing electronic music. i could only stay for the first set (that pesky job keeps getting in the way of my recreation). really had a good time.

Yes, it was great to meet Deknow at the Lizard Lounge. Thanks for coming, man.
EGW, and I drove down and jammed with Nikulydn in Boston on Wednesday night. It was lots of fun trying to improvise with a strong D&B band. We usually play improvised experimental music. The merge ended up very funky. It was loads of fun. We made some recordings but we haven't heard them. Maybe Nikulydn can extract a short mp3 sample and post it here.
On Thursday night, Greg and I opened the evening with about a one hour set. We played with Pierre (sorry, I can't remember the last name. Someone refresh my memory please). Pierre plays an electric violin with some processing and a NM. As far as we know, there was no recording made, so this forum topic may be the only record.
We played about six pieces which were mostly in the chill out tempos. The first was sorta a 12 tone piece. Intentionally atonal as an homage to the serialist composers like Schoenberg, Webern, and Berg. Not that we were using strict serial techniques, but we were getting that same stylistic feel. What seemed remarkable was that we were playing this in a bar.
That night we also played something inspired by Ian Sayer's, G2IAN, G2 patch called Dorn IS. http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-4795.html. I played this patch and we improvised parts to go with it. It's a great patch. I announced on the house PA that it was written by Ian in New Zealand. Maybe this was not 100% accurate, but it was true in essence.
After we finished, a DJ played a set that was an excellent bridge between our experimental ambient style and high-tempo DNB. Nikulydin picked up and started playing their first set seamless with the DJ. This was DNB on steroids - 2 drummers (V Drum and HandSonic), bass, three synths and guitar. People there were really digging this. There goal was to play with a live band what is usually only heard with a DJ. I think they were very successful. To me it is a much richer experience when there are live musicians.
After Nikulydin's first set, another DJ started up. The set was almost all DNB. I was burned out on this and spent most ot that set outside in the fresh air.
Nikulydin started the final set by layering in with the DJ just as before. Greg, Pierre and I sat in with them on this 1 AM to 2 AM set. This music was an amazing wall of electronic sound riding on top of a very fast and very precise DNB structure. The texture was so thick that I had a hard time playing something that could be heard in the mix. I found a piece of the high midrange spectrum and played a sharp electro-tyne type of sounds. I was a little twisted and played counter rhythm and off tempos phrases. We all had a great time. I was afraid I was ruining the music, but it was late and I was getting into it so I layed it out as much as could get through. After it was over, Steve and Scooter, the drummers, said they loved playing with all those rhythmic cross currents. I was so happy to hear that, I pulled a muscle in my face smiling.
We all had a great time.
I understand there are recordings of this set, but that there were some technical problems. Perhaps Nikulydin can put together some snippets to post here as mp3s, but I'd understand if they didn't. Even the smallest sample is a production of sorts.
I remembered to bring my camera, but I forgot to put the battery in it so there aren't any more pictures. Genevieve took a few snaps; hopefully she can post a couple.
Thanks, Nikulydin... _________________ --Howard
