Only one of the biggest
I'm just curious, what is the modcan/cynthia/diy(any non-commercially produced modules?) ratio? _________________ " I went through quite a few trannies til I found one I liked" - Wild Zebra |

System Signal flow is from Left to Right.
The Cabinets on the far left are mainly rhythm generation & logic,
the middle four cabinet rows are four complex voices,
there is also a set of quad this-and-that for another set of simpler
quad voices, (a section I lovingly call The Quadlies), and the near right include exotic processors like VC Flangers and Frequency Shifters...
Finally on the far right are the final output & quad panning sections.
Sequencers are across the top to keep the knobs from being bumped accidentally, and most of the I/O modules are at the bottom to keep cables out of the way. |

The Mac mini lives in the far right bottom cabinet, you can see the 8 inch touchscreen monitor in the middle right behind the stereo microphone, and the Mac lives in the two panel space to the left of that. In spite of getting a lot of interesting press, we actually only sold one of them (!), so I made another for myself and a few extra panels, but haven't assembled it properly yet. It's kind of kluged in pieces in the rear. Naturally my first priority is to my customers, and I usually get the modules with bad scratches or blemishes/bubbles in the anodizing for my own system.
The Touchscreen monitors also display standard NTSC & PAL Video and the creation of these Monitor modules is also a small step towards creating the infrastructure necessary for video synthesis, but so far that has been a somewhat unobtainable goal as a great deal of the semis are now obsolete, and it is arcane knowledge. It may still happen, as the look of analog synthesis (chrome morphing blobs for example) is still unlike anything I've seen done digitally (in realtime) to date. (Any interested analog video engineers are more than welcome to contact me).
The M&K Speakers are Xenon Series LCR25 right off the shelf. They're possibly the best little speakers like that made, however after having a whole stack of front panel adapter plates made, M&K promptly went out of business! You can still find them occasionally on ebay, you may have to paint them black yourself, and we have plenty of Modcan format adapter plates available, lol! Due to their small size, they don't have a whole lot of bass, so I have a M&K Subwoofer on the floor next to the system.
Thanks everyone for your very kind comments!

Exquisite, simply exquisite !! Very nice work and have fun with it If I look closely, I see red light shining through the 1/4" jacks, is there some LED lighting inside the panel? Am I seeing things

Great looking synth, zthee. Did you build the case yourself?
I don't recognize the module design -- did you build this yourself from scratch is this a kit synth?
Either way, it looks great and look forward to hearing the music you'll create with it. _________________ -- Kevin

Very impressive! My diy projects have been kit projects with supplied panels. To build and label your own panels takes diy to another level. I am continually impressed and inspired by you and everyone else who build their own panels and/or circuit boards, etc.

This is me in front of my Aries control panel. The two Aries keyboards are not shown in this pic -- these days I tend
to play the Aries via MIDI and the touch sensitive keyboards (the VZ1 and K2600) below.
The green, lighted, buttons on the left is a matrix patch system that allows me to patch control voltages to each
of the nine VCOs, two filters, and Phaser. The double column of buttons route the Gate Trigger signals to each of
the six Envelope generators.

hi Kevin,
Very nice Aries system! Back in the late 70's when I was taking a break from soldering my PAIA modules together I would lust and drool over the Aries brochure I had!
I noticed recently that someone has a fairly big Aries system on Ebay and the bidding is still reasonably low. I thought you might be interested to either watch the sale or even bid if you want to boost your rig or get replacements/backups. Pretty rare beasts indeed!

Thank You zThee!
Love the look of your panels and the curved case design is fantastic.
Looks like you'll have to build another one at the rate that you're going.
Keep up the great work!
