I think doing the meet in a hotel is the best solution... I know a cool place that has decent rates and lots of room (and it's downtown near stanley park) ... I can look into it
So who's in for sure? Let me when you want to attend Oct 1 and/or/xor Oct 2 and time of day is good for you ... Then we'll arrange a plan ...
Thanks.

Proposed Location for NordWest G2 Meet |
 |
|
Here is it.
http://www.robsonsuitesvancouver.com/index.html. This location is very central and close to some great places / parks / restaurants / and a 10-15 min walk from the clubs.
This place offers nice suites that feel like condos .. A 1bdroom suite or 2 1db suites should be enough for our meet.
Their internet prices starting Oct1 are $99 studio suite & $109 for 1bd.
Please reply guys, we need to know who's coming and for which days. Then we'll know how many suites we'll need and if we need a 2nd PA/amp if we split into 2 groups. We need to start booking places to stay soon.
I will prepare a plan this weekend for suggested acitvities, but please let me know what ideas you have. We could turn it into a set of workshops & patching activities , then a group performance. We can all learn from each other. Every G2 user is different!
Btw, I live really close to this place (4-6 block away), I could put one person (& 2nd person, uncomfortably) up in my place.

I'm definitely in for both days. My girlfriend is coming too (she can shop while we geek out) and we'll probably get one of those one bedroom suites which we can use for setting up our gear (the link above is broken by the way).
I have to admit to being a complete noob at this stuff though!!! |

The corrected link for the location
http://www.robsonsuitesvancouver.com/index.html (last time there was *.html.)
I think bring a set of powered monitors
stevecotheque, rhombus, and jamos, please confirm.
jamos, please bring the live PA and mixer. we may even consider bringing a pair of powered speakers and use my 2nd g2 as a mixer (among other things) for a 2nd setup (so we could work in groups if there are enough of us).
I am waiting for 2 more users (Sean, another Clavia sound designer, and Mux who is a local performer not yet G2-ed but a long time NM1) & possibly a 3rd one (from out of town). No one has commited yet.

i'll try and confirm by the end of next week. right now is crazy time at work, so i need to calculate the likelyhood of getting called in for OT that weekend.
thats the only holdback right now.

Folks,
I was double checking with robsonsuites about soundproofing and it is poor. I am researching an alternative to the meet location right now (it would be around 2-4 blocks away from robson suites)...
I am glad I double checked this .. Robson suites is a nice place to stay tho ...

<sigh> I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to back out.
One of our cars died this weekend, and we've decided to try to switch over to being a one-car family. That combined with other things means I'll have no way to get up there in October.
I'm upset; lots of adjustments to make.

Thanks rhombus for your reply.
So its you, grimley, stevecotheque, mux (the local nm1 performer), and me at this point.
I haven't heard back from the other hotels (re sound proofing, but I call them again today and find out).
If it is a small group of us, sound-proofing may not be a an issue (vs the cost of a dediciated meeting room, and we stick to robson suites and meet there during the day). Your thoughts?
I recond everone should bring their G2 & computer for a cool G2 performance at some point (recorded for e-music).

Dang! That's one less person .... And one "way out of town" guest wont be able to make it either ...
stevecotheque, we can hook up at some other time if you like ....
Robston suites is looking good since it'll be rhombus, grimley, me, mux (for some of it, chec kout his live performances at http://www.mux.ca/) ... we'll use one of the robson suites for the meet, ok?

Hey Folks,
Since I'm probably up before the others ....
NordWest05 was a great success! The meet was attended by: grimley (& his girlfriend), rhombus, mux (drew), mm, and me...
We had 3 nords (2 G2's and a Micro) and 2 more pieces of kit for sampling and stuff (no laptop used). At one point it was Mux (drew), Grimley and me going ballistic ... It felt like we've been performing together for years .... and then later we just let it rip ... there were a number of sets we did, which we'll combine into one mp3.
Pictures, patchs made for this occasion (including some new sequencer machines, and synths) and some I made a while ago (but did not post) and the mp3 of the whole thing will be posted here soon.
Robson Suites was just perfect ... the room was a corner suite (so we did not pound tunes into other suites), we had enough space for everything and a chill room, aka balcony for some dicussions and a break once in a while ... a great time was had indeed ...
For me, for one, this was a rare time that I have had the opportunity to perform with others (thanks guys!), and I highly recommend this ... it takes your music/machines/patches to a different place...

Great to hear this was a success! I can't wait to see the photos and hear the mp3. It's so great that you guys pulled this off. Hope it is an inspiration to people in other parts of the world. _________________ --Howard

Just got back into Seattle and I'm knackered but man what a brilliant time I had. Maybe it was the wine (!) but I think we pulled off some great stuff last night! I'll know soon enough when I start editing that marathon recording (about 5 hours long!)
Thanks again to everyone for all the knowledge I took away, especially Dasz for organizing it all ... you're the man!
Looking forward to a possible Seattle NordWest meet around January.

| I had a great time too, and I'm already attempting to implement some of Dasz's sequencer tricks. I'm forcing myself now to use the hardware interface for editing sequencer values and whatnot. Hopefully Dasz will post some of the modules or bits he made for the meet so I'm not just going by the garbled nonsense that's in my head. |

Hey guys!
I'm glad you made it back home in one piece. Thanks for making this meet an event to remember.
I must admit, I was getting a bit scared when everyone started dropping out weeks before the meet (I wasn't sure about the location & soundproofing)... but
Thanks
1. Mosc - We can thank you for seeding the idea!
2. grimley and rhombus for being here (taking the time and effort to make it and bring all the toys and your talent and your feedback)
3. martin m for helping out with meet arrangements, the amazing pics, and the moral support before the meet
4. mux (thanks for being the amazing honest performer that you are and for the moral support days before the meet),
5. a great room (thanks to Robson Suites and some good luck since we got a corner suite),
6. for the intense mix we did last night
= this was a meet beyond what I could imagine, and each meet is like this (when I met mosc, it was beyond what I could imagine)
I can't believe the performance was 5 hours long, I think we did like 8 differnt sets (grimley, correct me, dude cuz I stopped counting).... very intense stuff, a good workout! I think it wasn't just the wine (& other substances) but the mix of personalities that only a Nord Modular (Classic or G2) can bring together.
It was so nice to meet you guys in person (grimley+kate, rhombus, mux, martin m), and thanks for the many kind words (incl kate), they mean a lot to me ...
I can't wait for NordWest05 or 06? Seattle, neither can Mux. Maybe we can perform at a party, I think that would be cool ...
For everyone else reading this, we'll co-ordinate a new topic where we'll post the results of this meet (pics, mp3 and .pch2's -- don't worry rhombus, they're coming), give us a few days to get our heads straight...
Have a nice evening ...
/Dasz
