how to recreate the drumsounds of the kr55 drummachine? |
 |
|
hi,
i love the korg kr55 drum machine
and I'd like to resynthesize all these sounds...
especially the snare and open hh.
How to do that please? |

you would need to find information how the internal drumvoices are constructed an rebuild that in the nordmodular..
look at the 808 emulation ptches around..the kpr uses similar principles to do it sounds..
As closer you build the sound engines as closer the results gets..
the 808 cymbal is for example composed out of 6 sqare oscilators while the bassdrum is a resonant filter...
having such things in mind while making a patch that is supposed to sound the same is helpfull...
There is howeveer also another aproach by remodeling the sound from scratch..
look at the incredible funky drummer patch from Sheridan here in the lib...
He modeled the sound of the James Brown drummers sample with the G2..and he did a damn good job... For me the best demo of the G2s abilitys sofar...
with the wright patch you can get almost any drumsound out of the nord modular... To emulate a whole machine with all 16 instruments acurate might get tight with the dsp... but i am shure you can make 2 or 3 kpr sounds in one patch ... |

This type of endevour is quite more rewarding and less time consuming than trying to model something too accurately from a well defined set, in general.
Speaking for myself. Hell, I just throw that preconceived ideas out the window, grab the gist of what I want to do, and go from scratch.
Just some thoughts.

3phase,
like I said, I'm speaking for myself. I'm not suggesting others follow.
There is a lot of value in emulating other gear and learning from it, not to mention being able to extend the emulation in ways not possible with the original. I simply do not have the (hand) time to dedicate to such endevours.

I agree with you, i believe faithfully to emulating as i think it is one the most educative method for patching.
Actually i have nothing to reply to the item of this thread so sorry...

thanks ! This is a very good starting point indeed.
I have some samples of this drum machine as well
(I even had one real kr55 a long time ago). I could use
the samples to make a drum kit but I much prefer
to resynthesize the sounds. By the way I think
the kr55 is a much better sounding machine than the 808
(it sounds so electronic) |

Have no idea if it is like a Kr55 tho as i have never played with one but nice sound either way.
EDIT: I love the snare too, this is a great little beat machine. _________________ iP (Ross)
