Hard Sync Tutorial (etc) for G2? Subject description: Hard Sync Tutorial (etc) for G2? |

Hello.
Ive just found these tutorials for some interesting sound stuff but they all seem to be using the G1 Nord . Does anyone know if it was ever updated for the G2 or if there are any other good advanced G2 tutorials?
Thanks!

I think someone tried to convert all of the G1 tutorial patches to the G2, I think it is on the forum somewhere. There is a catch though, there is a connection called Master/Slave on the G1 which isn't there on the G2. In certain situations it can be worked around and in others I am pretty sure it can't. I tried to do similar to you at one point and I seem to remember that master/slave business caused a lot of problems. _________________ iP (Ross)

Plenty of members are happy to answer specific questions.
Also you can do a search for old posts. I seem to remember Tim doing some interesting sync related stuff.
Phase sync is one of the things the G2 does not do very well.
If you sample a regular G2 saw sync sweep, you can see that where the sync oscillator self resets, there is sinc shaping on the waveform indicating good anti-aliasing. Unfortunately the resets from the master seem to only have trivial anti-aliasing and this makes the effect sound awful. Pity because I love the sync sweep sound.
It is also a pity that we never got a proper tri-core soft sync option where the waveform slope changes direction on each edge of the master oscillator.
The sound is somewhat similar to the wave wrapper effect but different enough to be missed. |

I was trying to work around the bad sync implementation on the G2. Sync sweeps with 50/50 pulse waves can be "faked" quite OK with resonant bandpass filters going into a feedbacked hardclipping circuit. Controlling the feedback relative to filter frequency (rolling off subtly at high freq) makes it virtually immune to aliasing.
Lately I've been thinking if DPW anti-aliasing works in a DIY hardsync scenario. It came to my mind since I've finally come up with a DIY sawtooth osc that has perfect tracking and full 24 bit pitch resolution a few days ago. I'll try it. |

Yes, it is a whole school coarse.
An other way to get softsync:
pulse osc syncs a fm osc(Tri). detune FM osc at pitch and FM input with a constant module and a EG or LFO.
(FM on FM tracking) |
