Join Us for the December 2024 Electro-Music New Years Streaming Event!
Mark Your Calendars:
Date:Tuesday, December 31, 2024
Time: Starting around 15:00 GMT until the music stops or we run out of participants—whichever comes first!
The schedule can be found in the wiki and threads to previous events can be found here.
This is your chance to share your music with the electro-music.com community, connect with fellow artists, and maybe even make some new fans along the way. The emphasis, as always, is on live performance in real-time.
Why Participate?
Showcase Your Creativity: Share your unique sound with the world.
Experiment and Try New Things: Going live with a new patch, setup, or piece of hardware/software can lead to unexpected and enlightening results. Real-time improvisation encourages perseverance, and there's nothing like a live performance with a supportive audience to discover those "happy accidents."
Connect with the Community: Join a network of like-minded artists and music lovers.
Celebrate Music: What better way to welcome the New Year than with music?
How to Sign Up:
If you're ready to join us, simply copy/paste the sign-up template below and post it in this thread. We can’t wait to hear what you’ve been working on!
1. Preferred Start Time (Please use GMT/Military Time):
2. Set Length (30 or 60 minutes):
3. Artist Name (For displaying on the poster):
4. Chat Name (if different from artist/forum name):
5. Location (City/State/Country - Optional):
6. Description (Style/Genre/Equipment, etc. - Optional):
7. Website Address (Optional):
8. Anything else you'd like to mention: (Feel free to share why you participate and your musical, technical, and philosophical approach to your music.)
Whether you’re a regular, it’s your first time, or you haven’t participated in a while, we’d love to have you be a part of it. It would be great to hear from you again if you’ve been away for a while. So, grab your gear, hit "connect," and let’s make some magic happen.
See you on the 31st!
For reference, this clock could be useful:
First Time Streamers Please Read:
Please review the Electro Music Copyright Policy
Please note: "Preferred Start Time". We will do the best that we can to accommodate people to their requested times. However, please be flexible because this event will have European and American musicians in many different time zones. Time slots will be on a semi-"first come-first served" basis. Furthermore, please post your time in GMT. The handy clock should make it simple. However, we do use military/24 hour time. It will undoubtedly be an international event and GMT is the only way to coordinate such events.
As in the past, the chat room will serve as an invaluable communication tool for set up, streaming, and connecting to those listening....and it's just a lot of silly fun! I suggest participants get familiar with it in advance, if you aren't already.
If you want a recording of your set, it would be prudent to record your own set, rather than depend on others. Accidents and mistakes happen...especially in this format. There are many ways to record your set, either thru the stream app or record your stream from your mixer on the signal path to the computer.
Performers MUST stream at 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz , stereo.
more info about broadcasting on radio.electro-music.com can be found here.
It is IMPERATIVE that everyone test their connections before we start streaming. At least 24 hours before but sooner is preferred. Sorry, but we can not guarantee that musicians will be allowed to stream if you do not test 24 hours before hand. Not only does it delay the schedule, but causes unneeded stress on performer, server operator, and audience during performance time. Join the chat room for testing and help setting up. _________________ -- Kevin

Been doing self playing patches for many years now .. the idea is and was to investigate the border .. no worries, not for stopping illegals ... there is no such thing as illegals; maybe there is no such thing as a border either ..
Stiil music must not be a sound too predictable and not be a sound too chaotic, or a set of sounds rather, developing over time .. where there must be surprises, but not too many and not too few .. humans know .. algorithms know not.
There is a line, a big red line, and can step on one side and can step on the other.
Searching and trying is involved for getting the faking right; AI is not an option as a mislabeling of FI, I will not use Fake Intelligence for inspections but algorithms instead; patches that I've been calling "wire brains" in the past, which they really are not - of course.
Anyway, trying to have a bit of fun, and something to listen to when falling asleep
Oooh, forgot, I can stream op, but best not around 2300 GMT, it will be noisy here, then.
Can I talk about war things .. hmm, can try, will see :
can try
can try _________________ Jan

Hello to all.
I am running behind right now. My computer system crashed and I had to replace my SSD and this unexpected work has thrown me behind schedule. Once I get through Christmas/family stuff I will catch up with the New Year's Streaming broadcast tasks.
Thank you all for signing up. I will get a schedule put together and hope to get caught up on Thursday.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. _________________ -- Kevin

No worries, Kevin. My computer was hacked on Thanksgiving evening. It took a long time to get a new one running. The old one wasn't worth restoring to service.
Thanks for taking on the task of running these streaming concerts. _________________ --Howard

Recent changes in internet providers have put me into a perplexing situation concerning streaming capabilities so I am asking for assistance in how to link up to the stream.
In the past I was uploading with butt software through eternet cable but
my new provider tells me that with their service speed there is no need for that.
Will someone with free time and patience assist me with getting a good feed up to the station ? |
Dunno .. i have fiber here .. it is pretty fast .. but i still like to think that wifi works pretty well from one side of the table to the other .. i use it for browsing, but not for streaming. Bluetooth works fine over about a quarter table .. or from your but-pocket to those wireless things in you ear ... anyway, I use ethernet cables for streaming, and audio cables of course .. from one end of the room to the other where the streaming computer is.
Of course though, feel free to experiment .. I plan to be around often in the days up to the event and we can talk in the chat about tech issuess and connections and levels and the weather and what have you..
BTW, butt is probably the most easy way to stream.
BTW 2, you do not need to use web chat, a good old IRC client ... like limechat on the mac or hexchat on the pc
The webchat is at : https://electro-music.com/forum/chat.php .. you'll need be logged in to the forum to use it and at the bottom of that page are the settings needed for standalone irc clients.
BTW3: streaming from the same computer as where you generate sounds can be hairy, depending on the puter & os & audio gear ... so ... please please .. test stuff especially in that case
edit ... BTW4 : https://electro-music.com/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=Radio.ConnectionDetails .. and likely you will be using port 8138 _________________ Jan

When my studio PC's HDD died, I had John's Computer replace it with an SSD onto which they installed Windows 10. (The computer is not capable of Windows 11.) It took a lot of work to get it reloaded with the apps I use the most. I still have not fully restored the computer with the apps it used to have.
When I bought the Mac Mini, I networked my early 2009 iMac to it. I turned off both computers before I left for a vacation. Upon my return, the iMac wouldn't boot. When I needed a file that I never transferred to the Mac Mini, I merely connected the iMac's backup HDD to the Mac Mini and grabbed a backup of the desired file. My hope is that I can have the Apple Genius Bar replace the iMac's internal HDD with an SSD of equal size, load the OS, and backup from the external backup HDD. If not, who cares? I can merely connect the external HDDs directly to the Mac Mini. _________________ Bill Fox------------------|\-------------

And a week ago or so i went away for a couple of days .. on the first day my streaming windows PC died .. when coming back it would not start anymore.
I opened it, removed some cables of gear not immediately used .. kicked it a bit .. like old tube radios needed .. wispered some sweet words to it .. and then it would start
Plugged stuff back in and it has been running for two days now and streaming works again - it is not getting hot or anything.
I do have a backup plan for when it gives up again .. can stream from the laptop if need be .. but keep fingers crossed too ... the PC is pretty old .. like 10 year or so ... and had been always on. _________________ Jan
