This is sort of like the background noise present in multi oscillator circuits where spikes occur when the FET switches to discharge the capacitor. Each saw oscillator syncs to itself via a level shifter and a little of the ‘bus noise’. The noise causes a subtle shifting or jitter on each cycle which prevents the oscillators from locking even when tuned the same. |
Ah, I guess you've been reading that Kevin Lightner article about the secret of the Moog modular OSCs?
Can't listen now, but I'm dying to find out. Does it indeed work??? Do you get a more analog tone this way? Especially in the bass? _________________ klontart sound and vision blog: http://www.klontart.com |

Yes I did, I also remember reading what Bob said in a copy of 'imoogination'.
I like the effect, very juicy when the filters open up. but I am not sure how different it is to alternate tricks posted by Rob and others.
Mind you, I once had three Minimoogs side by side, one with the original discrete oscillators, and I liked the newer ones better. The elders sound was subtly different but not 'better', and the more frequent retuning was just a pain.
I agree with Kevin's statement that slow drift is not the reason for the sound character. All analog oscillators drift a little but the change is too slow to affect the character at any one point in time.
Edit: Another thing about the Mini is it cant do that 'odd only' pure square sound. The ratio needs to be exactly 50:50 and the mini's square is not quite right. |

i've looked at this patch for a while now and i think i'm missing something obvious.
on slot B (the pad sound) how are you changing from an apparent 9th to the major 3rd? i can't seem to find the modulation source.
i love that pad btw. |

Slot B is played via internal MIDI from the FX section in Slot A (Bass sequence). I try and keep all the MIDI sequencing in one place so I can sync the parts witout using another ClkGen.

Another great patch!
How do you get the time do keep doing all these, or can you knock them out quickly?
I am very jealous!

I don't watch much TV anymore. Not smoking also freed up a lot of time, all those 10 minutes add up.
And I don't have a 9-5 job . |

Mmm, I don't watch TV anymore either (apart from the news once a day), but I do have a 9 to 5, maybe I need to give it up as well.
