Since the thread on the passive ring mod seems to be half way into another thread somewhere else, here it is in the SoundLab pages- just incase you need one. (Zebra, this one's specially for you btw)

Using 2 sinewave oscillators- each with its own envelope generator I controlled these with a sequencer while messing with the tape delay plug in in Logic Audio- for a bit of 50's sci-fi.

You will notice the high frequency alising which is typical of the passive ring modulator circuit. I left it in just to demonstrate the sound.

Also the first few bars of the sample is straight sinewave- which sounds more like a square- because of the distortion in the circuit- then the ring mod kicks in. I like this sound- warm and fuzzy and very metallic sounding. Definately usable but sounds best with sinewaves and squarewaves. sawtooth waves (prominent on the soundlab) are a bit harsh for my liking :)

sounds great! i was also thinking of adding a ring modulator, maybe have to redesign the panel to make room (maybe lose the fine tune for osc1), there's a few designs based on the MC1496 around the net, and others even simpler. do you have (perhaps a link to) the schematics you used for this one?

I don't have the schematic for my ring mod anymore, but I may try and make a stripboard layout for it so you can copy it.

sounds nice. Nice tweaking on the delay. I already have my panel space
all layed out for the ring mod. So I reckon I'm gonna buy Ken Stones
unless you get a stripboard layout first Wink

yeah- very FM sounding. I can't quite get that same sound from a modern 4-quad multiplier. But I think they have their uses too.

My soundlab? Well I'm still waiting for parts to arrive. The box has been a total nightmare- but its getting there. I'm also completely brassic- having to put lots of stuff on ebay right now. I'm gonna be selling some homemade theremin PCB's (pre drilled too) soon. I'll give you people first refusal if yr interested?

I hear it's very hot right now in Ohio? It's been mad here to- especially after all recent the terrorist attacks. Only a mile away or so one of the would-be bombers has just been arrested by tazer gun, a lots of people are standing out in the streets!

At least its cooled down here now. Actually its almost cold!

Its hot as hell. It was 105 yesterday. Its the humidity thats the killer.
My thoughts go out to you and yours. Take care. Hey while I got you in here. I don't know if you saw my ques. about the sample and hold, but do you know if you can just hook it right up to the soundlab board for power or does it need its own power supply?
I'd be interested in one of them there theremin boards. My friend was going to by a Theremax kit and have me build it for him, but I'd sure like one too.

just noticed that on SL there is half LM13700 unused on IC3.

if you just cut the vials of pins 3 and 4 to ground (red line) and its good as new.

so i will try this Aaron Crams ring modulator schematic that uses half LM13700 .

on the LM13700 datasheet there are some interesting schematics - i just can´t sleep if there is half of IC unused Smile

Alright chaps, It's been a f**kin crazy week- Today we had a T4 tornado today (yeah don't laugh- it was fucking scary and it just missed this house!). Okay no way as bad as tornado valley but pretty bad!!

right now. One passed through when I lived in Florida for a summer

Hello, this is my fist post!
I´m just finished my soundlab minisynth plus and I want to add the Aaron Cram ring modulator, I have this schematic but my knowledge in electronic it´s not enough to stripboard the circuit.
Please, if somebody can help to stripboard this I will be very happy and very grateful.
