I finish my layout.
I made 2 versions, one "normal" and one with hoyager's mods.
But I have some questions.
For the "normal" version :
What is the value of C4.1 ?
Switch A1 and A2 are connect to ground, and A3 without connection ?
The DPDT is ON-ON (B1 is Lowpass input, and B3 is Highpass input) ?
For the hoyager version :
Don't understand this : "use an 8.2k resistor from the res3/out to the lug 3 of res pot (as per ms20) " ? (It's a bit confused)
And this : "add a 47k resistor from the hi pass input (gnd end of C4) to gnd ." ? (If I understand, he want to put a 47k in serie with C4 before to go to ground).
I can send you my layouts if you want.
Thanks |
What schemo are you using?
By the way, Ive ended up etching a schmitz PCB when I was building this |

I used the Rene schmitz' shema with Fazh0r layout for the LP/HP switch, this one :
http://www.schmitzbits.de/ms20.html
And I made a version with the hoyager' mods.
Just what the value of C4.1 on Fazhor layout connected to SWB3, 1nF ?
And end of C4, are connected to ground and SWA1 ? |

I made first the version of hoyager. Very bad mod, sound very crappy, don't follow it.
So I made the "original" version with LP/HP, works very well. I would like the resonance oscillates.
What can I change to have more resonance? |

It's ok, I found the solution, that was writes in a post above
That was just a problem with the input level. With a low input signal, the resonance oscillates perfectly. |

Here is my update of the Ms.20 with HP and LP.
http://aisynthesis.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/MS20.pdf
Almost ready for production, I have the following to troubleshoot:
1. Re-introduce a 10k input resistor to the input, and a 220r to ground, as in the Rene circuit. At overly hot levels, the filter distorts and acts irregular.
2. Should C10 be elctrolytic with the + facing "output?" Currently the filter "thumps" out when switching between hp and lp sometimes, requiring the cutoff to change before it kicks back in.
3. Confirmation of orientation of the two BC558s - I think this is not quite right... _________________ Experimental and modular music at: https://soundcloud.com/she-suburban-heroin-electronics

anyone experience the frequency not cutting off the signal all the way when its turned all the way down. I still get sound coming through. with freq turned down and resonance at about 40% the vco signal is consistently coming through and the filter is changing the pitch. weird |

gila_crisis wrote: | here you'll find my layout for Takeda's MS20 VCF. I added a charge pump to use it as a stompbox with a standard 9VDC power supplies (also with -/+9V instead of +/-15V the filter works really well! but you can omit the charge pump part of course). |
Thanks a lot for this! I used this layout for my build, and it turned out fantastic, beyond words.
The only thing I changed is the wiring of the Frequency and Resonance pots. For me, the reversed wiring (low to high is clockwise) is more intuitive. The Frequency gain I left unchanged. |
