Subject description: i still hate the user unfriendly way switches get displayed.

I had this before..But it is still after 2 years the main issue that i hate about the G2... It kills my fun playing with the knobs...its anoying..its just a waste of a great infrastructure...

All switches always show me their name... good..
and this bloody source tag... Sad
This is not what i want to know from a switch that is called "wave" for example..its much nicer to see the namefield of the switch...
Telling me which wave..
Even when this maybe breaks a bit with the syntax how the display distribute information regarding the modules...
Its just so useless that a whole display line tells me "source"...
What is this supposed to tell me? That i can select a source?
Thanks... it really makes me feel silly... Actually "It" feels silly...
And i really started to hate this little silliness about my super duper monster G2... I rather would go for some flower stickers or so...

I hope one day others get this kind of allergic reaction aswell and write to clavia about it..
They like straight design...but sometimes form should follow function...

Good point.
I've always wondered myself why the display says "source" if you assign a switch.
The display should show the name of the switch and not "source"

(you can display the switch name if you toggle "display mode", but then you loose the module name Sad )

i wholeheartedly agree... i've been using the front panel a lot more lately and see the current scheme as an inefficient use of GUI resources.

I wrote to clavia regarding this a year ago.. but i think its necessaey to show that i dont have an isolated opinion about it.
I see why clavia like to have things structured in logical ways...but in this special case they should do an exeption for the sake of playability and quick orientation. It´s probably a rather easy to fullfill wish once Clavia is convinced that this is wished by a bigger group of the userbase.

I agree! I know it's been annoying you for a long time and I always thought: "He's right, that annoys me, too."

Fully agree, it has annoyed me from day one as well. It is so very much like this is a remainder from an early development stage, and it is one of the issues why I still think the G2 is not yet a fully finished product. It has annoyed me that when the mutator release was released none of these small, but many times vital, details had been improved. For a performance instrument these details are just sóó important.

I can live with e.g. the exp scale on mixer knobs that in its display shows a value that can not in any way be related to whatever, except the percentage of angle a turned knob is now at. The LEDs do already give a good indication for this, so why not show the real percentage of attenuation in either true percents of attenuation or in dB.
But especially with the switches the displays should show sensible information and not info like: 'you can now make a selection and let's hope you can remember what it is you are going to select, cause I am not going to tell you'. Cause while playing one wants to make the proper selection right away without having to try some selections first to refresh the memory. That's what displays are for, to show info you can act upon and not show non-info that leaves one in the dark. I think it is even better to a blank display than one that e.g. says 'source'.
