Subject description: troubleshooting tips anyone?
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

I'm brand new to this and trying to assemble an APC as my first project.

I've got it breadboarded up, but it's not outputting any sound, except if i touch the 10uf capacitor that is, and then it acts as a radio.

wondering if anyone has some troubleshooting suggestions? wrong parts? blown chip? bad wiring? just not sure what would cause this......

Thanks!

Man, I tried to wire up the vero board version with a 556..Nothing!
I built one using a dual 555 chip configuration from robthefiddler.com
BINGO! worked fine the first time. I did a dual opto-resistor mod thats outta site!
here is the link below!

Sure, thanks a lot for taking a look at, wouldn't surprise me if it is human error.....

How many caps you got on that board? I only see 2, one elec and 1 non-elec.

Actually, better question is, which APC circuit you using?

i found several errors in your arrangement. missing cap, a couple missing jumpers, and a couple others.

try this:

thanks! i did have the 3rd cap on, but it was sort of hidden

anyway, i think i've got it wired right now, according to your diagram there.. i think i did have a few connections wrong the first go. unfortunately, same results.

No sound, unless i touch the big cap, then radio...

if you have another 10uF, try replacing that first. it's worth a shot, because those are really unreliable.

So I got some new 556s to try in there.... changed the pots too.

Not working great yet though. There is barely any volume, but i can barely hear this faint oscillating sound if i crank the amp i'm plugging it into. it's like the static is faintly oscillating?

one thing i realised is that your breadboard calls for 470k pots, but i've been using 500k linears, as called for in the circuit at

http://www.getlofi.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/10/atarilayout.gif

EDIT:

A connection wasn't being made somewhere. i reconnected it all and it works!
Thanks for all your help!
