This is for JH when he arrives back on Saturday - in case anybody else is experiencing this, this ought to be enough to help him figure out the email thing (I believe Germaniac may be experiencing the same, for example). I post it now, because I may not be around when he is
Here's what I'm getting back from the server:
Quote: | The message identifier is: 1I0fyh-00072P-HZ
The subject of the message is: Tau PCB Order 1 Piece
The date of the message is: Tue, 19 Jun 2007 11:40:24 -0500
The address to which the message has not yet been delivered is:
jhaible @t debitel. net
Delay reason: Connection timed out:
SMTP timeout while connected to mail2.dnsg.net [193.168.128.16] after initial connection |
I altered the email in that message to jhaible @t debitel. net for the benefit of any robots they may be watching (it's JH's actual email address in the original message).
This was for the order I sent on the 19th. I have a similar message for the order I sent on the 18th.
I kind of wonder if there was such an influx of orders, debitel just went >sproing< at that moment.
Cheers,

A very good idea indeed. Another trick is to embed the text in a jpg or gif. Use the same tricks they use to image spam us.
Didn't he say he was going to be out? |

Greetings from my VHDL training course!
I've made a remote check of my mailbox - lots of pcb orders in there.
I'll send confirmations on saturday - don't worry before that.

I got the same undeliverable message; then I got an ack from JH that he recvd my order. You may want to wait until after Saturday, when JH sends the acks out, just in case the mail server is oddly behaved.

Hi,
I came back last night and sent "order confirmed" mails for all orders I have found in my mailbox.
I hope everyone who has sent an order mail has an order confirmed mail by now.
(If not, please contact me again.)

I made some drawings for various options of input and output connections of the Phaser, and put it to the web site:
http://www.jhaible.heim.at/tau/jh_tau.html
direct link:
http://www.jhaible.heim.at/tau/jh_tau_signal_and_cv_connections.pdf
The potentiometers and LEDs and power supply connections that you always need (4 potentiometers) are not shown in this drawing; just the pots and stuff that is optional.
This is to show you how this project can be rather simple and cheap, or quite comprehensive. The "Deluxe Version" is how I normally build stuff for myself: Input and output level control, separate pots for left and right output channels, a switch for each output (L and R) to select the main outptput or aux output from the pcb (gives two versions of Mono, Stereo, and inverted Stereo), bipolar electrolytics to get rid of the remaining millivolts of DC voltage, True (hard-wired) Bypass that puts the circuit completely out of the signal path (including the load of the input level pot!), and a green/red status LED to indicate on/bypass. (Requires a 4-pole, dual-throw switch.)
That's a version that allows comfortable working, level adjustment for the right balance of L and R output, and also for live manual panning effects.
OTOH, you don't need all this to get the dramatic phasing effects: The demo recordings were all made with the minimal configuration (page 1).
But I recommend to use an input level pot at least (page 2). Otherwise, you have to adjust the input level with th eoutpul level pot of the instrument you connect (or with the Mixer's Effect Send pot), and you probably want to reduce the input level with increased Resonance.

Does the Tau Pipe works with line level signals (IN/OUT at +4dBu), as the FS-1 frequency shifter does ?
Or is it 10V p-p ?
Tau Systems made modulars ? |

That's just a matter of adjusting a few resistor values.
BTW, my original FS-1 works with everything from Mic level to modular synth level, because it has a SSM2017 input amplifier and input and output level potentiometers, in addition to the compander system.
Whether to include a Mic preamp or not will have to be decided in the pcb-layout-version of the Frequency Shifter (working title is FS-1A ), as the SSM2017 is obsolete. (But we can discuss this in the frequency shifter topic:

That's the input section:
http://jhaible.heim.at/tonline_stuff/hjfs5_ia.gif
ETA: That's the input section of my FS-1; the Tau Phaser has no microphone preamp! (Just to avoid confusion.)

Maybe i can organize something if there is enough interest.
And ordening some silked screen panels in great quanty's really let's the price drop. |

I encourage you, or anybody else, to create front panels for this, if you like.
Maybe I'll make a Schaeffer panel for myself some time (don't know when, and I don't know for which form factor yet - could be 19", could be table-top) and share the design file, but these engraved panels are certainly expensive, compared to silk screening.
So yes, any work in that direction is welcome. (You do it on your own, though; I'll just add a link to you on my Tau page, if you like.)
I also got some nice mails from two very friendly guys who will document building their Tau board, step by step, on their web site!

I really want to order a board, but it looks like my country (Denmark) isn't supported when it comes to adding funds from my bank account to my paypal account...
So if I don't want to send cash in an envelope, I'm basicallly screwed, right?
Damn, Norway and Sweden are supported, but not little ol' Denmark. Typical.

Hi JH,
Is the value for the 40 caps, 15uf, 1.5uf or 15nf? I tried ordering the 15uf value for Wima and Baldwin said it didn't exist, thanks.
