Im super excited i found this great community, i know nothing more beautiful than the complexity of electronic music. I was wondering if anyone could help me out, i have a bit of a problem. I bought a Novation X-25 about 3 years ago, and ive made some of the most amazing riffs with this beast of a machine. I would love to start recording and adding beats, but i dont even know where to start. Im thinking of getting an Apple laptop, would this be the right investment to have a full featured system of recording everything from synth loops, to beats, and guitar riffs, etc. If not, whats the best way to get started on the aspect of learning as much as i can, from a beginners standpoint, on how to record, manipulate, and create electronic music?

Thanks alot for your help.

An Apple laptop isn´t a bad choice at all. You get Garageband bundled with machine.

An option later on is something like Logic Express or Logic Pro.

the avatar is there to show you *just how serious* he is about electro-music.
i hear that despite the fact that macs officially suck, garageband is a great way to learn and as a PC owner i am becoming increasingly bitter at having been abandoned by Logic, especially as it seems to p all over Cubase's parade, which imho has become too clunky and really needs to start again.

garageband: a few years ago my tone deaf graphic designer of a flatmate raved about this as even HE could understand how to put stuff together. it's great for learning structure and the basic layout of sequencers.

Logic: probably the best ambassador i can think of for Logic at the moment is Clark, who assured me that his latest album was all done on Logic. i was astounded, i thought there was some serious back end programming going on in there, but he said that no, he really liked the interface, it was easy to use etc. he said he wasn't a programming geek and i got the impression that he was a little tired of ppl assuming he was (that's what happens when you sign to WARP...)

but the point i'm making is, you can achieve rich results with simple tools, so start with the simple tools.

I was tempted to joke about Clark Kent using Logic but I refrained myself only to see you doing it Rolling Eyes

Hey Vord

I'm not sure if an apple laptop would be the best choice with money in mind, but I have one and its fantastic.... I actually dont use it for recording... Im just so automatic on PC and all my software would need to be updated to mac so..

But the things are reliable (he says as his is IN THE SHOP for repairs.... at least the warranty is good...)

If you are new to music production, I've actually written an Ebook about music production for begginers... I will be selling it on my webpage in a while, but I wouldnt mind sending it over to you, let me know an email addres I can send it over with and if you want that or not...

welcome to the forum!!
