There is a bit of a issue going on in the Reaktor community. It seems one of the premier instrument designers decided to offer one of his reaktor ensembles for sale in the User Library. The Library has always been touted as a free source for nearly 2000 reaktor instruments and has been a major selling point for the expensive software. But now many are outraged and feel the Library's integrity may be in danger with everyone wanting to get paid for their contributions. Then there is another camp who feel their hard efforts at instrument design should be rewarded with cash. The issue is not whether they should get paid, but to sell them through the once free library.

Sounds like a familiar story, doesn't it?

I've seen people sell patches on other synths, like the DX7 for example. I don't think it is a big market, so the odds are one won't make a lot of money selling patches. If you do come up with something unique, then someone else will come up with a close duplicate.

I know of some patchers that don't give away their patches because they fell it is their personal differentiator. I can understand that. Still, to sell patches on a free library is a little untactful, at the least.

If anyone wants to sell patches here on the electro-music.com store, they are welcome. The store's software does support downloads, although it hasn't been used in that mode yet.
