Transient Designer Subject description: Emulation of the SPL device attached (mono/stereo) |
 |
|
Hi,
The Transient Designer is IMO an extremely elegant idea and effective way to change the attack and release characteristics of a sound, as an alternative to the use of compression.
The circuit affects only the user definable attack and release portions of the sound with no level change in between these points.
One can soften or harden the attack, ie. to remove clicks or add a punch - the release portion can be set to act somewhat like an expander, or to extend the decay much like a compressor.
This is a mono/stereo emulation of the device.
This was patched (from my old NM1 version) on the demo, so to use an audio in, just add the audio inputs and route to the FX output object.
Depending on preference/usage, the two mixers at the bottom right could be tweaked to balance the overall level against the effected level. The Right-hand most knobs are the dry signal.
If you haven't tried one of these before, try a snare, bring the attack time up to around 9-10 o'clock, and then adjsut the gain. You should hear the snare start to "pop" at the front - but without the "squish" you'd get from a compressor.
There are four knobs:
1: "Atk Tim" sets the time of the attack portion.
2: "Atk Gn" sets the boost or reduction of the attack portion.
3: "Rls Tim" sets the time of the release portion.
4: "Rls Gn" sets the boost or reduction of the release portion.
As this was patched on the demo, please let me know if there are any problems on the real device(!?).
[Editor's note: patch was lost in the great crash of 2007. Reloaded by Wan below. --mosc]

Can't wait to try this tonight ... I've been looking to buy an SPL Transient Designer for a few months now.
