Just saying hi... Subject description: ... after a long time off |
 |
|
Just a short post to say hi to some of the people here I know from the old NM1 lists: Hi !
After a few years of spending my time on a lot of other things, I've recently reinstalled my 'classic' NM and I'm trying to get back into the old state of mind to try to get the most out of the little red machine. It's been too long, I really missed this!
As far as I am concerned, I'm still not tired enough of the old NM to need a G2. Like dr Who's phone boot: red, solid steel, looks small and simple on the outside, but amazing things happen inside the box!
Anyway, I'm planning to check back here every now and then to see if there's still a bit of a community around the NM1 who are having fun with it and trying to push it to the limit.
Maybe somebody can enlighten me on why there is both a forum and a mailing list, should I subscribe to both not to miss out on any of the discussions ? |

The list is pretty quiet nowadays with an occasional outburst of 10 to 20 posts. There is a bit more activity over here, but nothing like in the good old list days. Most is G2 related, but some Classic stuff passes by occasionally. It will not be a daytime job to follow it _________________ Jan

As the Tardis did for Dr Who, it looks like your red box has taken you back in time to when you had fund creating patches for the NM1.
It's great to have you back online again.
The list doesn't have the same ambience nor the participation level as it used to, but that doesn't mean there aren't people anxious to hear your new patches. I still have my NM1 connected. |

Hey Ico! I remember you well. (it's 'terryfunken'- remember?)
I still have the 'ol red box- but my desk, until very recently, was too small, but I now have this whooping great big Ikea thing now, and things are slowly being plugged back in again!
anyway, to electro-music.com _________________ ACHTUNG!

Hi there, good to see some of the old names still around! A pity that the list is not what it used to be, but hey, you just can't expect these communities to last forever when the subject is considered 'obsolete'.
At this time my NM is being 'upgraded' with some extra controllers (a little joystick and a horizontal-pressure-sensitive keyboard sensor). When it's back from the workbench in a few days, I'll see if I can plug everthing back in and try if I still know how to do some patching.
I'll post any interesting results :) |

There were discussions about the creation of two lists, but in general most of us made the change to the forum. The old list mostly generates spam now, although Sven (3phase) is still kicking it sometimes.
The advantage of the forum is you don't have to read everything, so you also can write about nonsense, like Christmas dinner recipes At the other hand I just noticed you post, a day after...

Hey Wout, good to see you're still here as well!
No, I haven't heard from Fridays Child for years as well. A real pity, I've never met somebody like him with such a broad knowledge of almost everything, he's still one of my personal heroes :)
I'll probably see you around here; I hope I have the discipline to visit the forum on a regular basis - that's why I still prefer mailing lists.
By the way, is the NM1 patch archive still maintained and up-to-date, or should I scrape all the recent patches from this forum myself ? |

Ehhh, well...
It's a little bit scrambled, the last time when you send it to Howard. I am promissing almost four years now I will clean it some day, but...
Re-married, got a two-and-a-half year son now and will be opening a 'kaaswinkel' next week, so I'm still a little bit busy...
It is at
http://nm-archives.electro-music.com/
The recent Patches are indeed rather low, because most of it is G2 now...
I think you made the last recent patches yourself...

Kofi lives about 30 minutes from me, and sadly we still have not met.
I remember chatting with him when I first got my NM and joined the 404 list. As it turns out one of my former co-workers took Yoga lessons from him at one point. Small world....
He still does post to the list Ico. You will probably find a recent post of his in list archives. |

What!
Thirty minutes? Walking or driving?
And we met already, on the The Hague Beach.
Mr B and his family once lived in The Hague, as refugees from Africa. He told me the name of the street he used to live, I took some photographs, Friday Child printed them, gave these to his sisters, who brought the pictures to their mother in Africa, who was very surprised to see back that neighborhood she once lived. Indeed, a small world

Driving, of course.
And it's interesting, that I met you chaps half way around the world before having the chance to meet with Kofi. |

Alright, all you Dutchies returning to the nest again
(Even Roland Kuit is in the building again...)
When it's still cold in februari I'll make a big pan 'erwtensoep', with meat, 'roggebrood met spek' and we'll have a nice Dutch dinner. About ten to twelve persons will hold...

Great to see you here. Wish I could join you at the Dutch dinner. Don't need to scrape all the G2 patches, Jan maintains a zip archive you can download. It's quite sophisticated, not just a directory of patches, but it contains links back to the forum topics where they were posted and discussed/explained.

Hey there Howard, long time !

Well, I don't need to scrape the G2 patches, because I don't have anything to play them on :)
I was hoping the recent NM1 patches were still in a less-or-more organized state, but it seems that this project has been orphaned with the arrival of the G2.

Normal Patches can be played there, only one Voice and some restrictions, but you can check if the conversion NM>G2 of the Iclock works...

Hello Ico! Nice to see some old names around. I miss the vibe of the old list as do many.
v-un-v: Which Ikea table did you get? I need something, and they just moved into my area.
