Bugs and wishes forums needed |
 |
|
On another topic, http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-2774.html, it was suggested that we set up special forums for bugs and wishes. My take is that this could be easilly done, but is it necessary.
I could add these two new forums under "Clavia Nord Modular", or under "Clavia Discussion". Before I jump in and add these, I'd like people's opinions.
So wadaya think? |

A fixed position would be nice, subs of 'Clavia Discussion' seem to jump around dependent on what's being posted. Maybe it can be glued to the top or bottom somewhere ?

Great idea, I'm all for it
I think it would make most sence to have them under Clavia Nord Modular but it's not that important as long as they are somewhere.

I think that's a great idea.
However, I would separate it into 2 categories, "bug discussion" and "wishlist discussion", as wishlists often include some (justified & enjoyable) phantasizing, whereas troubleshooting is a far more sober affair.
Having a centralised forum space for bug discussion is great to find out if a suspected bug IS really a bug or just something one did wrong, so one can figure this out BEFORE pestering the Clavia folks.
OTOH, it might be worthwile for the Clavia developers to lurk and peek here from time to time to see if there is something they have missed. So if you do it, you'd might want to hip them to this! The topic list of bugs could in that sense almost serve them as a "checklist" of what still needs to be straightened out, so if it's possible, it would be great to have a checkbox next to the topic, designating "this bug has in the meantime been dealt with by Clavia".
To make this really useful, it would however be necessary to separate the REAL bugs from the stuff that stems from wrong usage, not reading the manual etc. (which is bound to crop up here too). So I think one should have 2 subsections: "bug reports", where anybody can report what they believe is a bug under the condition that they post the presumable bug as an attached patch, and a "certified bugs" section, where those bug reports are moved to once their "buggyness" has been certified by other users.
Having rules might seem a little tedious, but it would ensure the accuracy of such a database, which would be very helpful for us, and for Clavia too. |

Yes, good idea.
Also the suggestions of shosin are good advise, split it in bug reports and verified bugs.
Also it is important to remove or archive fixed bugs is some way. If all bug reports are there for ever it may seem that the G2 is a bug-ridden machine. That's not the case.
So when a bug is repaired the accociating (verified) bug reports should disappear from this list. _________________ Grtz Wan |

Lists like this do require active editing.
As mentioned above, to distinguish "real" or Verified bugs from "human error". (In my experience 95% of midi problems are human error!)
Sometimes to clarify the description of the bugs, what conditions must be present, what version of HW and OS.
Also to consolidate similar items on the wishlist, and perhaps to organize a vote at some point to prioritize them. |

I'm strongly in favor of this, with the option of a separate wishlist and bug-report part (latter indeed with patches attached). Go Howard, go Howard! |
