First of all, to electro-music.com, Jack.
Your stuff is really great. I went to the site and listened to every tune. Splendid!
You're music is very original, very interesting, lots of fun, and quirky - in a very nice way.
I love the vocals. The vocoder is nicely played.
My favorite one is Prayerscape. I love this one. The beats are just facinating. Very nice.
Next is Chemical Love .
The one I like the least is Dr. Neologist. That thumping gets old quick to these ears. (Hey, you asked this on the questionair.)
Your mixes are wonderfully sparce of effects like reverb, delay, and echo. Everything is out there - naked.
The synthography http://www.nerthus.co.uk/jackdark/nomadicanecdote.html is a very nice touch.

Wow thanks a lot!
I thought it would be cool to add a Synthography, as I've often wished that other bands would do the same. I guess most won't because they fear giving away their "secrets". I'm glad you liked the music, and I'm looking forward to exploring this site. _________________ http://www.jackdark.net/ |

Hi Jack Dark
I can't say this kind of music is my "cup of tea" but nonetheless I appreciate the originality of it.

hey!
heard the name before, from a lil guy named oogie over at tribe.net looking foward to hearing your stuff. people like you and speak highly.
ruminator:
nice lo-fi feel. nice slapback. real cool production, nice use of that fucked vocoder. it has some crazy internal logic akin to The Shaggs and Captain Beefheart, which isn't subject to normal rules of music. great delay mashings! you love to find the points where the gear breaks!
love your survey, btw. love knowing everything about the stuff, that's very nice. 5 months. yeah it takes me a while to do my real stuff, too.
rawhide funk:
nice comb filter beat. this is a bit easier to understand in the musical sense. i was gonna say "where's the snare," but then the beat dropped harder. nice. nice fade between the two beats on verse II. like the form a lot. nice breakdown, you space your elements very well. great vocal mangling.
chemical love. great lead tone/line. sometimes i wish you would find a nice female singer. (lol) the autotune (?) on your voice is a great element of your sound. your music creates a vast dissonance between the concept of control and chaos, because the wildest sounds are probably the most controlled, where the most unassuming elements-the beats, are just allowed to plug away.
GREAT production. This stuff is just jumping out of the speakers. can't believe it's a lo fi transfer.
nice to meet you _________________ Astroid Power-Up!: "googleplex" available at:

Thanks a lot for the compliments!
I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner, but I hadn't checked this forum in a while.
Your concept for the Google Plex stuff is rather interesting in of itself. I think perhaps you would find the concept of Stochastic Resonance to be of some signficance to the ET influences in particle reception from space. ( http://art3idea.ce.psu.edu/boundaries/stochastic/stochastic_1.html )
As for Oogie, I've never heard of him. But he apparently has access to a very nice Memory Moog... tell him I said !wow!
I really appreciate when people enjoy my music, because I do realize that it's a bit esoteric at times... perhaps too much for it's own good. Again, thanks! _________________ http://www.jackdark.net/ |

Hey Jack
I've downloaded "Nomadic Anecdote". Yeah, this stuff is very, very cool. I LOVE the sounds you use. You are excellent with your synth, whatever it is you are using. It's your bitch! All the bit reduction, screaming distortion etc is just wicked. The production is fantastic too - like matey upstairs said, it really jumps out of the speakers. I wish I could do that.
I LOVE the synth at the intro to Child Eyes.
One thing I don't like: the out-of-tune singing on some tracks, most particularly on Dr Neologist. I don't know if it's intentional (I'd quite like to know) but the melody of the singing just bears no resemblence to the music anywhere else. For me this doesn't work: it grates a bit. May some people it's really avant garde or something, but it does nothing for me.
The crux question is: will it stay on my Walkman. The answer: Hell yeah! This stuff is ace!
Anyway, keep the shit coming.

By the way
Ruminator is bloody wicked as well. You are the master of sounds!
Where are you from? Tell me about yourself. Perhaps you have a claim to fame? Where were you when Princess Di was killed? Where would you like to be when Lion-O out of the Thundercats is killed?

lol
crayfish need a dither to survive! awesome.
as for the SETI thing, it's a total hoax. I recorded the tones mostly after the drum tracks were down. i invented the story mainly to generate some dialouge with non-musicians. It's not really working so well. I did upset Harrington, though _________________ Astroid Power-Up!: "googleplex" available at:

Haven't listened to the tunes yet (I do have hopes to get the studio set up this weekend - but anyone following my occasional posts on getting the studio set up will notice this is about the 6th week I haven't had a chance to do it yet... we'll see...)
But... I love the synthography. When I saw mosc point it out - I checked. Very cool. I agree on the "mystery/secret" thing - it always irritates me when someone wants to keep how something was recorded a secret - that their sound might be stolen etc... Yes - it could happen, but likely not - even if you explain what tools you use, how you patched them together, things you specifically tweaked - it still won't sound the same. Good for you for doing a bit of a rating and explanation. Very cool. |
