You've hit the blue "Perform" switch in order to get it into multi program mode, right?

Or maybe I'm misreading your problem. I have had a JV-1080 for over 10 years and I've been using it with multiple midi channels and multiple outputs for the entire time. If you don't hit Perform though, it won't work right.

so i can load different patches into say midi channel 1 patch 001,midi channel 2 patch 003,and so on.the jv will play all the different patches together. at the moment when i change midi channels with another patch i can only get it to play 1 patch at a time

I don't understand. I use Digital Performer and the way it works for me is each track is its own midi stream (which in the case of the JV-1080 goes out one particular pipe). Program changes in any particular track work fine, so long as the JV is in performance mode. Maybe you have one of the performance mode parameters set wrong. I'll check mine when I get a chance next and post back.
