I'm doing a dual of this and I just got the first one up and running today. I used an ordinary 2k in place of the tempco (probably put them in later). I did little resistor teepees in series for the odd values. Was this necessary or could I just have used closest within 5% for everything except the 121k?. It took a long time. Anyway, it sounds great. Thanks for the project Andy |

Good news !
You mean you will put 2K tempco after ?
There is no resistor value to tweak for tracking V/OCT scale ?
It seems 1.87k tempco is about to be obsolete... |

Actually i haven't trimmed it yet I will do it tomorrow and see how it goes. I don't mind the flaky so hopefully it will be OK for my bedroom noodlings. |

It seems the 1.87K Tempco Resistor can be ordered, custom, from Precision Resistor Company. This is where Ray Wilson gets his 1k and 2k Tempcos. I don't know what the price or minimum order amount is(could be 10), but, it's probably worth looking into if there's enough interest here on the forum. This 1K87 is not only used in the Oddy VCO, but also in the Arp 4023 VCF that Andy posted (and maybe the 4035 also?). Depending on price, I'd want at least 5. |

There's also half of an idea of a group buy on the sdiy list. So don't start two... _________________ http://www.casia.org/modular/ |

I've recently used 2K Tempco's with no problems - there's a 100k trimmer onboard to adjust the V/Oct scaling. Just enough tolerance to allow for a 2K.

There's been a bit of tempco discussion on this thread and I'm a bit curious about it on a practical level. I'm not using them on my diy masterpiece thus far (mostly due to cost). If you don't have them the scaling gets stuffed up as the temperature rises, correct ? In a VCO circuit like this one does the temperature reach a peak after a certain time or does it fluctuate? So far I have waited about 15 minutes warm up time before trimming the scaling. Is this a decent strategy? It sounds ok to me but I have a dream where I show it to someone who knows things and they hear the scaling and I get slapped in the face with a calf skin glove. |

Yes, I usually let things warm up for about 30 mins before any adjustments.
It also helps if the modules are adjusted in situ i.e. in the case where they'll eventually go as heat generated from the other modules, PSU etc can be higher than the ambient room temperature that you're working in.
Cheers,
Andy. _________________ Kronos 2-88, Kronos 61, Studiologic Sledge V2/SL, Broadwave ARP 2600EX, Broadwave 18U ARP based Eurorack Modular, Broadwave Minimoog Clone, GEM S2 Turbo.

I replaced the 2k with 1.87k metal and tuned it. I got giddy when I heard the sound. I put on my duck-egg blue terry towelling bodysuit and and danced around for hours only pausing to photograph myself with my mobile phone and twitter how I was feeling with each passing second. Anyway, I will probably do another pair of these. |

I also noticed that the PCB was slightly less than 100% scale-- but only after I etched it! I think it will be OK, however. I'm populating it anyway.
Can you confirm this Andy? |

Damn I already etched mine too. Hopefully won't be too tough to kloodge the IC sockets in. |

I was able to squeeze mine into the layout, but it definitely appeared to be a little scaled down. |

That's just a password. Try some PDF-password remover, it'll work.

Or alternatively ... when you want a "toolbox" like solution for windows without concerns about spy/add-ware ...
Install Ghostscript, install the Gimp, set the GS_PROG environment variable to point to your ghostscript exe. Then install a postscript printer, any printer will do you don't need to actually have that printer, and use that that printer to print the PDF to a file with a .ps extension, it will be a postscript file then. Next thing is to open the .ps in Gimp, and then you can do anything you like to the images.
It is a bit more work of course ... _________________ Jan

However, if the pdf just needs to be scaled up or down before printing, you can just do that in the print window of acrobat reader. No need to create a new file. _________________ http://www.casia.org/modular/ |

i usually print out of corel draw so i can layout a bunch of pcbs onto an a4 page. you can import pdf layouts easily and re-scale with no probs. when pcb images are out of scale i simply grab one i know is the correct scale (i usually use yusson's designs for this) and just make one transparent and stretch the poor scaled image to match the IC pin dimensions of the correct sized layout. pretty simple.
i think you can do this in inkscape too, though haven't used it for awhile _________________ problemchild

Windows Office Document Writer can do this too. I don't know if it only comes with Office or if its a Windows default. Anyhow you can print the PDF to .msi then double click the file and save it as a .tif. |

I've not had a problem using the same PDF - Please remember not to select the Shrink (or Fit) to Page scaling option if you're using Acrobat - make sure you select page scaling as "None", as this will definitely reduce the image... maybe that's the problem?

Do I have to buy the schematic online in order to build this module ?
