Live Streaming New Years Eve 2009 electro-music.com event |
|
|
electro-music.com live streaming New Years Eve 2009 floating concert.
To listen, click here!. (on NYE, of course)
We did it in 2006 and 2008 (I think we missed 2007) so why not do it again? Lets have an online electro-music.com international New Year's Eve party and electro-jam. Almost all cultures celebrate the January 1st New Year so this is sure not to offend too many people.
A floating concert is like a floating crap game, it moves around from location to location.
We will set up our shoutcast server to run all day Dec 31 through Jan 1. We'd like people in their studios to set up live streaming of performances, jam sessions, or any kind of musical expression for streaming. The electro-music.com members and lurkers can tune in and share the experience. Hopefully, we will get people volunteering from all over the world to sign up for a time slot. Pick a time convenient for you - it doesn't have to be Midnight in your time zone, but that would be cool.
For those that haven't done live streaming, it is a lot easier than you might imagine. To do the streaming, all you need is a PC with Oddcast (now called Edcast), a free program. If you have a Mac, you can use the Nicecast program (free demo works for a month the last time we tried it) to stream.
If you are are interested in participating, we'll set up a test server just for you to experiment on to make sure you can get it to work.
Once you get your own server assignment, you can test stream all you want. When you time come up on New Years Eve, I will switch the radio.electro-music.com server to reflect you server. You have nothing to do.
If you are interested, please let us know sending me a PM (Private Message) by clicking on the PM button at the bottom of this message. We'll pass out times on a first come basis. I'll stream from my house at midnight Eastern US time. We'll have some electro-friends over to jam. Why don't you do the same? Don't worry about being polished and super professional, this is for fun. Hopefully, we can give some of our DIY synth builders a chance to have their music heard direct from their studios.
It's party time...
All you need to know to start streaming is in the following links:
Edcast (Oddcast) instructions posted: http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-13780.html
Mac OSX users are encouraged to use NiceCast which we have tested.
In 2006 we were able to stream noodles when there was nobody streaming live.
Hopefully we will be able to to this again,.
During the event the streaming will be hosted here: radio.electro-music.com.
Here's the the agenda. I will keep this up-to-date as the event approaches. There are still plenty of times available, so don't be a dead tube, link in a help us light up a new and hopefully better year.

Mosc, I took the liberty to post your post (with some minor adjustments) on a few other websites to spread the word on the event.
It's now on kvr, ableton, vintagesynth, last.fm, facebook, myspace, twitter, virb, synthtopia, matrixsynth, beatsplayfree (pt), microsound.org, em411 and createdigitalmusic (so far).

To join in on the fun and communicate with others feel free join the electro-music chat room (anytime but especially during events like this one).
http://www.electro-music.com/forum/chat.php
or if using IRC the server is: irc.blitzed.org
channel= #electro
We hope to see you there!

Thanks, Jason, for posting the details of the chat room.
Notice to all participants:
The chat room is critical to making this event happen. It is the way we handle all communications during the event. Start using it now. You can get people to listen in to your individual streams to make sure it is coming through cleanly and not clipping and stuff. When your time to perform comes, you just stream on your individual server and I'll switch the main radio.electro-music.com:8050 server to reflect your stream. The handover is done via the chat room.
I urge all streamers to get your streaming tested early. Last year there were a few people who put this off to the last minute and couldn't participate. _________________ --Howard

Excellent! This sounds like a total blast! I participated in a netjam last year using the "Tube" plugin - it RAWKED!
I'm adding the link to fadi's blog where you can listen to all three:
http://dorninger.servus.at/8k
and the t-u-b-e site:

Thanks again Howard and everyone that made electro-music Fest 2008 the one of the exciting, fun, memorable events I've ever attended!
Cheers to all,
Mike

No, I think there really was a processing error when I converted from my spreadsheet (OpenOffice) to an html table. I fixed it. _________________ --Howard

Two things. Just to check to see if anybody else is having these problems.
First - Howard, is the server up? I can't connect to my port to test.
Second - who has problems hearing shoutcast? It seems during testing that a lot of Quicktime users cannot hear my stream (from home testing), it just gives a second of sound and then hangs. Winamp seems to work fine, but I cannot hear my own stream with the other macs in the house, so I am suspicious that we got an easter egg from Apple.
Anybody got insight? I am using the latest version of Nicecast. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

Jan and I have been testing this. It seems the stream playlist is important, if you just give out the port number with no playlist it borks up.
so in my case the playlist that works is listen.m3u. Just giving out the port number results in hangs.
Still wondering about the radio server though. I can't connect, although it worked fine last year. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

The server was working fine yesterday, I streamed my performance out from an XP machine using edcast, and streamed into a Mac downstairs using itunes. I also tested the receiving side briefly using Windows MediaPlayer on XP yesterday.
In both itunes and media I just opened the URL:port and it worked fine. I didn't use a playlist, and I have had troubles using winamp in the past, probably just piloting errors, but I didn't bother with it.
Today, on the other hand, the server was not connecting. Since all worked yesterday, I assume the server was (maybe is?) down. I am on the wrong machine for trying it right now. _________________ When the stream is deep

You need to PM Mosc with your intent to perform, and he'll PM back a port number for you to test with. I tried a few times in the last hour, still cannot connect to the server today.
I didn't change any setup from 2 days ago when it worked. I double checked my config just in case, seems OK. _________________ When the stream is deep
