Nord Lead 3 Rack Heating Problem? Subject description: Nord Lead 3 Rack gets very hot? |
 |
|
Hello, I was just curious if other users, have noticed that the Nord Lead 3 Rack, gets extremely hot? I have the Nord Lead 2 X, Nord Modular G2, and G1. None of the other units get nearly as hot as the Nord Lead 3. Is this common?? I am about to purchase this unit from a friend, just wanted to be sure.
please feel free to message me: rdevine1@gmail.com
Thanks

Indeed, I think, although never mesureed it, the NordLead3 is getting a little hotter than the others, which also being rather hot. It is a Clavia thing...

My NL3 (keyboard) does get a bit hot, too, but nothing serious. I used to have a micromodular and I remember it getting hot also. My G2, in contrast, doesn't seem to have this problem.
The NL3 rack may get hotter than the keyboard due to everything being a little more crammed inside, and also if the rack isn't properly ventilated (e.g. make sure the ventilation holes are not obstructed by some other racked gear). _________________ My music: http://cdbaby.com/all/fac |

My Nord Rack 3 gets noticably hot at the back (almost too hot to touch), but have never had problems with it. I have to stop the cat sitting next to it though |

Same here. Very hot but no problems. It still worries me though so I don't keep it turned on for a long time, specially now in summer. _________________ Cheers,

I've just bought a Nord rack 3 and I am also very concerned about how hot the casing is after it's been powered on for a short while.
Does anyone have a Nord rack 3 that doesn't run hot? |

More Clavia gear has the heating problem, at least the Leads and the Modulars. Haven't met the problem with the Electro serie.

Yea, I have gotten use to it. I have left mine on for weeks now working it pretty hard everyday for sound design, and I guess the heat isn't too much of an issue. I know my Nord G2, and Nordlead 2 doesn't get nearly half as hot as the NordLead 3. One thing to note is that the Nord 3 has almost 3 X the amount of LED's and lights, which may be the reason that its getting so hot. More power consumption possibly? Still love this synth, wish there was a work around for the heat issue. I don't have any other synth that gets this hot.

Ventilation on back and bottom is OK.
I let it cool for 20 mins and opened it to investigate and the casing was still hot to the touch!
The back of the LCD was still a little warm, and the front panel and main pcb's where fine but the power module pcb was still burning hot (specifically the blue transformer on it). I noticed that it's blackened once of the grey ribbon cables that was touching against it.
I'm using it at 115V (it has a switch to convert to 230V).
Maybe it just runs this hot when it's in the 115V setting?
(It's certainly the hottest piece of gear I've ever owned). |
