Thanks for the nice compliment and be sure to check all of Scott's videos that exploit all those applications Wink Many to be viewed on Youtube. He worked so hard to put those together and they are a great resource. Cool

Obviously I did not order the kit, however the 2n poly cap is proving to be quite elusive. Digikey is sold out and noone else seems to stock anything similar.

Any advice?

I found 2nf polys at mouser. Link below.

I hope this helps. Very Happy Very Happy

Managed to finish up my appendage this afternoon. Went through the cal procedures, and all looked good, but when I brought it inside and hooked it to a rack full of modules, the gate is constantly lit now, and the output sits high until I press on the ribbon, then it dips to a normal value. It's kind of like inverted behavior. I tried adjusting VR1 again, and got it to turn the gate off when I press the ribbon, which is really odd. I'll probably have to re-cal it from scratch with the power supply that I intend to use instead of the one in the garage?

Anyway - here's a pic.

Ah... it's a good thing that I have a horrid commute on which to ponder circuit issues. Turns out that the problem with the "gate always on" I was having was because the appendage wasn't fully plugged in. It's up and running! Too freekin' cool!

Something useful - an error in the manual? Pg 178 step 2, should (I believe) read
2. Ensure that the Gate Mode Switch (SW102) is in the “SAMPLE” position

That, and the before mentioned issues with trimpots fitting (esp. with the terminal strip), and that's all I found... amazingly little for a complex build with a 216 page manual!

Gerald

Wow, OK great news there. I just started to think on this when suddenly I see that you answered your own question. The thing that blew me a away was the fact that the calibration went off well and then things went wonky on you when you got "connected". Sorry for the late reply BTW. Glad you got it up and running and controlling your synthesizer Cool

Thanks for the heads up on the manual and thanks for the feedback on the trimmer spacing. I will have that fixed for the next batch of boards.

The documentation was really rung out for sure. I constructed a PC board using the documentation and tried to catch as many things as I could during this time. Scott and Andy Sharp did also and we felt that we nailed most of the "gotchas" !! Oh yes, that is QUITE the bible of Appendage building. lol ....
Wonderful piece of literature thanks to Scott and his wonderful writing abilities!

EDIT:

OK, I took a look at the documentation to what what context the step you pointed out was in:

2. Ensure that the Gate Mode Switch (SW102) is in the “RIBBON” position

I believe that the original above is correct as here is why. This section is calibrating the external SAMPLE input so the GATE mode is set such that pressure on the ribbon allows the external sample voltage to be presented to TP1 for alignment.

Chat more and GREAT work BTW !
Bill
