so if no-one who built itwith ryk's layout wants to chime in, i recommend doing a debug as usual. grab out the original schematic from thomas henry and check the board against it, starting with the sin shaper portion. check all connections and values, transistor orientation an so on. i call this greenlining, since i use a green pen to check off everything on the schematic that is okay. _________________

There is an error in the sine shaper with the connection of the 10k feedback resistor. |

i got a go from thomas! so i will start to work on it. for me i made two layouts, one for the core and one for the waveshapers. i could combine them (which would safe money and logistic efforts), or leave them seperate (which would allow the usage of the shaper for other saw core vco's).
suggestions? _________________

I would very much like to have shapers stand alone as I am looking to add 2-3 shapers to my already crowded modular. _________________ Erez Yaary

this is how the PCBs look like (without any changes). if most would be fine with them i could make them available next month...

I'm selfish and vote for the solution that consumes the least energy of fonik, so he can come up with further cool projects. _________________ Red is black and plus is minus. http://www.bild-schall.com |

The way they are now would be good for me.
I second Mattias' sentiments ! |

I would definitely be interested in two boards! With separate waveshaper boards I would even buy two shapers extra!
Thomas, Scott and Matthias, great work!

Awesome!
I'd be in for 2-8 cores depending on price and a couple shapers. _________________ - r. mosquito

hello again.
I get about one octave with my x4046. Is that because I didn't matched the transistors, or because not +-15V, but -+12V, or because my CD4046 is not the right IC ? |

Scott, did you ever test the RCA 4046s? Apologies if I missed the results somewhere. _________________ Life is like an analogue sequencer. Twiddle the knobs to avoid boredom. |

Now that I've come back to designing and building again a few weeks ago, I found the quad PnP printout of the 4046 VCOs of mine. I searched for the error mentioned (in the Sinewave section).
In case it matters to anyone that still has one of their's lying around with the non-working Sinewave output - there's a 10k feedback resistor at the opamp connected to the transistor pair. It's wired between (on the PCB) the + and - pins of the opamp. It should be the - and output pins instead.
As to the error mentioned about the power supply connections to the opamps being incorrect - all of those connections, were just double verified, as correct.
I'll be building at least 1 of these VCOs as well as soon as I finish the alpha version of my Moog 960 sequencer clone / upgrade. (Hopefully within a few days from now.) |

Thanks Rykhaard for the update, I etched a PCB from your layout, and will start to build the VCO soon. _________________ Sebo

hello everyone
is there some easy way, how to build these with voltage controled SKEW of the rampoid?
( am going to build on fonik's pcbs) |

replace the skew pot by two vactrols.
while the resistane of one vactrol increases the other has to decrease, so you would need additional opamp circuitry to drive the diodes. _________________
