Here's my work for the year, I know it's a bit ghetto style, but I'd rather spend the little money I have on functionality rather than looks.. I won't be doing any more work this year, as I'm in the process of moving (which also means I'll have a much needed dedicated workshop).

This is my concern, my addiction will prevent it from stopping there..

Then I'm left with the dilemma; keep building on this 5U, or start a new project (maybe a 3U)?

2011 modules - concentrated on the Klee sequencer and some utility modules. Also modded earlier builds to run on four way power headers (V+,AGnd,DGnd,V-) rather than just one ground.

CV mixer (cookbook)
Klee sequencer (e-m)[/img]
Hex AD/Ar (frijtz)
Quad VCA (nicolas)
VC clock (fonik)

Nice work Flux.

Are those FPD panels? I'm just wondering if you had Serge Pot scales in HPGL/FPD? I'd like to get a hold of these scales

Thanks for the comments.

Complete system? In SDIY??

Here's the current state of play - two cabinets with a couple of spaces left. Just buidling a dual MFOS State Variable Filter to fit into one gap. Not sure about the other yet. Then I need to build the third cabinet...

And here's some pics of my other 2001 build - a manifestation of Peter Blasser's Rollz5. Anyone familar with Peter's circuits will know they are.. a bit different. The Rollz5 is essentially a percussion machine. On the left of my version are the drumbrains - multiple transistor-based pulse generators that you connect together to create rhythmic patterns. In the centre are the various percussion modules which I've brought out to a modular synth interface. These are basically unstable oscillators - the pulses from the drumbrain kick the oscillators into action, but the oscillations then decay fairly quickly.

You can also trigger the percussion from a standard trigger, and drive a normal synth from the drumbrain (it tends to put out negative-going impulses so neds to be routed through a full-wave rectifier first). Madness ensues when it drives the Klee.

On the right are some LDR's hidden inside blocks of eucalyptus that serve as variable resistors. You can play these with your fingertips, or just waving a hand over them changes the incident light sufficiently. Any signal can be put through them - CV for the 1V/Oct input to an oscillator is sort of theramin like. CV for the cutoff of a filter, audio, etc. CV for the VC Clock driving the Klee.

I'm working on a new synth and I just finished the sequencer. I use
cardboard 'ghetto' panels untill I have everything build (to avoid having a big
mess of wires, pots, switches, jacks, and PCB's).

I remembered I had a small cardboard box almost the size as the panel I
made for the sequencer so I decided to box it up. This also gave me
something to mount the PCB on.

I smell a rat I smell a rat I smell a rat I smell a rat I smell a rat I smell a rat I smell a rat

another part of the synth + audio can be found here

Sometimes I wish there was a "like" button for posts here! This thread is always an inspiration and I enjoy all the approaches to instrument building here.

This is Grant Richters' Neural Pulser module. There’s a master clock with whole, 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8th divisions. The two banks of mini-slide switches are 2 binary rate multiplier based pattern generators. The outputs of all these divisions and multiples are patched to the 4 ‘Neurons’ (top half of panel) using stackable mini-connectors. Each Neuron has 2 Excitatory inputs and 1 Inhibitory input. A 3-way switch lets you select between the logic functions:  not / or / and.  So you get 4 different simultaneous patterns based on the same clock with related variations at the flick of a switch.

PostPosted: Wed Nov 23, 2011 7:36 am    Post subject: A new Weird Sound Generator
Subject description: a gift for my granddaughter
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

When my granddaughter visited last year she was fascinated with all the stuff in my studio and I asked her if she'd like me to build something for her. Well, she said, "Yes!". I asked her what colors she wanted and she chose a yellow panel with purple lettering.

Danno G will no doubt recognize the case -- it is from a mixer that he gave me during one of the swap and shops. Well, the mixer was pretty well used however the case made an excellent housing for the new WSG project.

The mixer was drilled for slide pots and the back panel had a lot of holes in it (it had been modded quite a bit). The holes in the back allow the speaker's sound to escape from the case and I just glued a grill cloth across the back. For the control panel, I simply made an overlay panel (in the opened up pic, you may notice some of the original drillings).

I added an internal amp/speaker to it however the unit has a audio ouput jack that, as expected, cuts off the speaker when a patch cord is plugged in.

I've had a lot of fun playing with the WSG. For such a simple circuit (six schmit trigger oscillators and a op-amp based filter) it makes so many sounds that I've already spent three hours just messing with it.

Well, my grandkids and son will probably love it -- not so sure about my daughter-in-law! Very Happy

Unique panel Photon ... I am "liking" it Wink

Kevin ... yes a LIKE button would be cool. A "like counter" would be handy.

Yep! I had purchased one of these for use a pitch-preview amplifier for my theremins. In the meantime, I installed internal pitch preview amps so I just had this laying around.
