So I did the changes suggested by Sound. The things I had to change in the changes was the noise level. Cause even with the noise level trimmer turned down it was still 4x higher than the replacement signal. So I reverted back to the 18K / 100K setting, which brought it down to a better level..
I'm not sure how to adjust the voiced / unvoiced detector. There's only like 3 different settings to it - Either there is no action at all, there is just some action (I.e. Say "T" and there will be a burst of noise, but it sounds imho a bit strange..) or a 3rd where it's a mix of everything. I'm not sure which I like the best. But if I set it to the 3rd option and then adjust the tone control to fine tune it better..
Here's a short MP3 clip http://thehumancomparator.net/music/living%20vocoder%203.mp3 _________________ http://www.thehumancomparator.net/ |

Good work zthee and sound, just soldering my 1% caps in today, still got the trims and other box caps to order. Have used 25V electrolytics instead of 35V, this shouldn't make a difference, it's what I had in but the paranoia is creeping in |

Anyone did a suggestion for a frontpanel yet?
The patchpanels (Ghielmetti) seems hard to get. Anyone figured out a different solution, like analog matrix? |

i just acquired a pcb for this project
i just wanted to tip my hat to sound and zthee for paving the way through the troubleshooting. thanks for helping out
does anyone have a panel completed / case yet?
is there anyone in australia who wants to join in on capacitor buying
there is a price break at 250 which halves the cost of the caps _________________ problemchild

Has anyone in the US ordered the 1% caps? I'm trying to order them from RS electronics' german site, but it looks like they only ship to germany. I went to the UK site and found the same caps for almost double the price, so that's out. And their US affiliate is Allied, who doesn't have those caps. Any recommendations? |

thanks
bad producer gave me that link earlier today as well
it is all starting to make more sense - time to start a panel design
has anyone thought about having led bar displays for the envelope detectors similar to the buchla 296e?
if so, would you need a bar graph driver for each channel or could you do it an easier way? _________________ problemchild

I can't think of any other way of doing it - than bar graph drivers...
are you really thinking of doing that?
If you did that would it probably be best to have that whole section powered from a different 'dirty' PSU... _________________ http://loudestwarning.tumblr.com/ |

I should add that my vocoder has been half finished for nearly a year whilst I've been moving in and out of different houses. I have a nice new workshop now, so have pulled it onto the desk again for finishing, can't remember where I got to though! _________________ http://loudestwarning.tumblr.com/ |

So, I'm trying to get my head around the panel design for this as I near the end of soldering and beginning of testing. I thought I'd make a design for each part of the schematic to help me envisage how best to arrange everything, what to include etc..
Has anyone finished and got a panel done?
Be good to hear any thoughts on sections as I put them up over the next days...
I begin with the Speech Input Amplifier:

The trick is notes, notes and more notes - I have often told myself when I've been in the same boat! |

Yes, you're right - I've found all my notes too, but still feel a bit disorganised!
Did you finish yours? _________________ http://loudestwarning.tumblr.com/ |

True!
I've done a bit more today on this, and I'll amend that panel Luka - do you mean like a switch and pot to allow the output to be mixed back into the input? _________________ http://loudestwarning.tumblr.com/ |

Looks good to me, but I can't double check it at the mo from this computer, I have done something the same, but it's too shoddy to post! I'll look it up when back at home next week... _________________ http://loudestwarning.tumblr.com/ |

removed the image above
the more i work on this the more errors i found
one point of confusion at the moment is the pause bus
regarding the the filterbank pots / slider
is that marked as PB on the schematics?
and
does CW of the pot / slider join to both the PS bus AND channel analyzer output? _________________ problemchild
