Hello!

My MIDI Switcher is an old JLCooper Nexus 8x3 MIDI switcher.

It works ok however it does not work very well with MIDI Clock messages -- there are numerous dropouts.

I would like to find a MIDI Switcher that handles MIDI clock dependably and would like to know if you have any suggestions.

Currently when I work with clock signals, I have to exclude the MIDI switcher and patch directly to my devices. I like to change configurations and the limitation of my switcher has become an annoyance.

I appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks!

Hi Kevin,
if you are tech-savvy, you could solve this with a RaspberryPi and a couple of cheap USB midi interfaces. You woud have to program this yourself (or find someone) but you have much more flexibilty this way.

I can confirm that this library in conjunction with NodeJS works perfectly with clock messages even on a Pi3:

Hope that helps!

Cheers, Dirk

Thanks for the info and the library reference.

Sometimes rolling your own is the best solution!

I had pretty much resigned myself to a purchase of a new midi switcher.

However, I started to notice that the data dropouts happened at a kind of rhythmic pace. I further discovered that it would drop other messages, such as NOTE-ON events.

This made me think that perhaps this is an AC ripple/power supply issue. I swapped its 9 Volt DC supply for another one and the ripple disappeared and the unit tests out well with MIDI CLOCK and other messages.

So, I need only order a replacement power supply (though i think I will choose one that delivers a bit higher amperage it possible).

I want to integrate everything in my studio (2 digital hardware keyboards), my Octatrack, the hardware modular synth, my DAW and now WREN. I was really going around in circles to work around my MIDI Switcher and am glad to discover that it works just fine!
