March Equinox Concert 2024 Subject description: signup is closed |
|
|
Calendar Event: March 23, 2024 We do get an extra day in February this year but March is already waiting around the corner, so,..
This event will be on electro-music radio on Saturday March 23rd, 2024.
It will start somewhere around 15:00 GMT and end whenever it is over depending on the number of participants.
The schedule can be found in the wiki and threads to previous events can be found here.
As always, if you are interested in performing, please copy/paste this Sign-Up template and post in this thread:
1. Preferred Start Time (Please use GMT/Military Time):
2. Set Length (30 or 60 minutes):
3. Artist Name (For displaying on the poster):
4. Chat Name (if different from artist/forum name):
5. Location (City/State/Country - Optional):
6. Description (Style/Genre/Equipment, etc. - Optional):
7. Website Address (Optional):
8. Anything else you like to mention:
For reference, this clock could be useful:
First Time Streamers Please Read:
Please review the Electro Music Copyright Policy
Please note: "Preferred Start Time". We will do the best that we can to accommodate people to their requested times. However, please be flexible because this event will have European and American musicians in many different time zones. Time slots will be on a semi-"first come-first served" basis. Furthermore, please post your time in GMT. The handy clock should make it simple. However, we do use military/24 hour time. It will undoubtedly be an international event and GMT is the only way to coordinate such events.
As in the past, the chat room will serve as an invaluable communication tool for set up, streaming, and connecting to those listening....and it's just a lot of silly fun! I suggest participants get familiar with it in advance, if you aren't already.
If you want a recording of your set, it would be prudent to record your own set, rather than depend on others. Accidents and mistakes happen...especially in this format. There are many ways to record your set, either thru the stream app or record your stream from your mixer on the signal path to the computer.
Performers MUST stream at 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz , stereo.
more info about broadcasting on radio.electro-music.com can be found here.
It is IMPERATIVE that everyone test their connections before we start streaming. At least 24 hours before but sooner is preferred. Sorry, but we can not guarantee that musicians will be allowed to stream if you do not test 24 hours before hand. Not only does it delay the schedule, but causes unneeded stress on performer, server operator, and audience during performance time. Join the chat room for testing and help setting up.

In my upcoming performance, I'm excited to blend human expression with the possibilities of machine-generated soundscapes. This collaboration aims to create a whole that transcends individual parts, offering listeners an experience that is greater than the sum of its components.
I'm particularly eager to explore the transformative potential of filters, likening them to magnifying glasses that unveil intricate details. By manipulating timbral shifts, I aim to craft a rich and nuanced auditory journey.
Ultimately, my goal is to shift from the traditional role of a 'performer' to that of an 'explorer.' Through this musical exploration, I hope to guide listeners through an immersive sonic landscape that evokes curiosity and a sense of shared discovery. _________________ -- Kevin

Last week the time in the live schedule was changed by Howard for US summer time and it looked correct: GMT 22:00 _________________ Jan

Recording of my set |
|
|
Here is the recording from my set today.
Often when I work on a composition or an improvised set I make notes that are a kind of "program notes in advance" to focus me on the task at hand.
On this set, I discussed what I wanted to do with an AI (ChatGPT) and collaborated on a description of the music. Indeed, that result of that interaction is what I typed in my post (above) to describe the music.
It occurred to me that there are music-writing AIs wherein the human makes suggestions to the AI and the AI, in turn, creates music. This was kind of the opposite in that the AI made the "suggestion" and I used it to guide my human effort.
Technically, I continued to explore techniques and tools from previous improvisations. My tools included my modular synth, Wren software synthesizer, and the Kurzweil K2600.
This set kind of ended up in three sections. The first explores melodies and textures in the Pentatonic minor scale. This scale is often-employed at electro-music.com events so this is kind of a "shout out" to my electro-music friends.
The second section focuses on the Klee Sequencer's ability to have more than one sequencer step active at once (thanks to its internal shift-register chips). The number of variations for a given set of sequencer steps is huge and that is one of the most powerful features of the Klee Sequencer. This section is entirely accomplished with the Klee Sequencers on my modular synth.
The third section ends in major diatonic and turned out a bit "triumphant", I think.
Hope you enjoy listening.
As always, thanks to the stream operators and organizers of this event!

Hey all!
I want to post my set too...
What's the preferred format to do that?
I originally bounced my track from Logic to .wav, but the file has almost 1Gb...
Can I put it in .m4a AAC at 192kbps?
That's just a bit over 70Mb...
And is it ok if I post in my artist section instead?
Cause that way it's easier to link to my blog... |

Preferred would be 128k mp3 (but other rates than 128k are fine too) ... as the radio here can play mp3. It will play flac (lossles) as well (but it would be somewhat larger a file).
And of course you can post in apple format (aac), but it would be nice to also add an mp3 so that it can be added to a radio playlist - but ultimately .. it is up to you .
And yes, you can post it in your artist's section - a link from here to that would be nice and maybe a link from there to here - there are others doing it like that too. _________________ Jan
