my first g2 song |
 |
|
so this is my first g2 song. i wanted to put it up here, because i'm less inspired about the song than i am about the patch (which needs some perfecting, but oh well)
basically, the g2 has allowed me to do the googleplex type electro-jazz stuff, live. the kick drum is triggering the key changes, and then some lfos and s&h objects are being quantized to the corresponding chord changes. sometimes these link to the triggers (which are just being triggered by audio, btw-using duracell's triggering idea, plus filters for snappiness and a s&h for "velocity")
i am also working on using the note sequencers or control sequencers for making more melodic material. also, i'm working on markov chains for this stuff, too (mainly as state changing between melodic phrases) man could i use a decent lookup table!
so enough blabber-there's the file. nate wood on live drums and then me on live nord g2. unmixed, no edits.

This started a bit like "hmm don't know", but ater listening some more I heard some really nice things. Not exactly sure to me from your description how you did it, but it was a nice listen, thanks. _________________ Jan

thanks,
yeah, like i said, i'm less excited by the actual song than by the patch.
the patch-there's a sequencer running which has the bass notes-those got sent to my evolver, in paralell to those, there's 6 event sequencers passing on/off notes to each of the notes in the quantizer (so the quantizer changes "keys" in pace to the bass notes)
fed into the quantizer, there's some info generators, like an lfo-lfo chain and a lfo/s&h chain, and the ability for the chain to be triggered by the kick and snare or not.
i have control over 16 cc's, which control the tone, the range of the quantizer, the algorithm for tone generation, the polyphony (one of the switches on an lfo) the shape, speed, and phase of the lfos, and some other things.
thanks for the listens. i am pretty painfully conscious of the weaknesses of the actual song, and am currently trying to implement other, more musical algorithms than just cranking the lfo's up to 11. _________________ Astroid Power-Up!: "googleplex" available at:

I just hope that you didn't pick such up from my words, I meant to say that I like it actually
Thanks for for your explanation about the setup, interesting. Looking forward to hearing new experiments with. _________________ Jan

naw, blue hell, you were nice and complementary. i see this track as a kernel of an idea which will blossom more in a few months, i just got so excited by the idea and the sounds that i put it up in its imperfect, long, lfo wank state.
i'da put the patch up, but it's not the easiest thing to understand-and you need to calibrate the inputs for the drums you're recieving and have a 16 channel midi cc controller for it to make any sense.
but seriously thanks for indulging. i respect the hell out of both of you guys, especially after checking out your patches.
blue hell-you made a markov chain "attempt" patch, which i'm trying to understand. does it work?
i have a first order four event markov chain patch which i have no idea why it's not flawless. it works, it just isn't very solid yet. _________________ Astroid Power-Up!: "googleplex" available at:

Yes I did, but its been quite a while, memories are vague, I should have look, do you have a link to it ?
IIRC the thing came to an end because the results were a bit disappointing, maybe we should have tried harder then ...

I like it! The track sounds pretty wild. The music is different sounding than most of the G2 stuff around here.
I look forward to hearing your next efforts. _________________ varice |

This is great, I like this.
So, essentially, you play the drums and the G2 plays itself, triggering the Evolver for bass? |

thanks varice:)
and thank you, afro88. your patches are wild, too. i don't know how you get such a huge sound out of my synth.
in essence- the drums are being played by my buddy, nate wood (a brillliant songwriter/hired gun on bass, guitar, and drums/producer)-he played them on a different track, which was appropriated here for my purposes.
the g2 gets triggered by his kick, snare, and hihat.
i am playing 16 cc's (a PC1600X) which control various parameters of how his triggering affects the signal. the nord kinda half plays itsself-i guide a few things like:
1. register
2. timbre
3. algorithm
but then it supplies the notes.
and thanks for redoing the patch, blue hell, can't wait to check it out. _________________ Astroid Power-Up!: "googleplex" available at:

That's awesome, nice work man. So, when do you get net access in your studio? |
