Crackle Box DIY Synth Project

What does C3 2n9 do in the crackling. After a quick check by bugbrand on my perfboard layout(if you can call it that) It's been said I did it right, (YEH) but I was curious about C3 cause I used a 2n2. I reckon it wasn't enough difference to make a difference, but what do I know. Also the added electro cap for the optional led. Don't you normally add a limiting resistor? What is the purpose of the cap? Just wanting to know.

I not an expert, but I thought it was bad to have an out jack to amp. W/O having some sort of transformer thingy like bugbrand did.

that output needs to go directly to 8ohm speaker (small).
but you can always mod it whit bugs instructions

yeah, it should work fine with just an 8 ohm for now.

i'll make another layout with bugbrand's additions. possibly a switch with the headphone or ouput jack that connects bugbrand's addition when something is plugged in.

that brings me to a question: how would bugbrand's addition work with an 8 ohm speaker? just curious because it would be nice to not have to make it switch. thanks!

Oh yeh THANKS, yet to try Bancika's layout program. Gotta get my computer hooked up at home. The first thing I was going to try was a Cracklebox. fixin to make that passive mixer an your site for all my battery operated noise boxes. Was going to do the one on general guitar gadgets, but fewer parts means less money!

thanks. i just went by the schematic and didn't know that the schematic used a different # of pins than what i had. i'll get on that as soon as i can.

since you made the output circuit, can you tell me what happens if a speaker is ran after it instead of the jack? i ask because it would really simplify what i want to do. thanks!

Good eye Bugbrand. I used the 14 pin. Thanks to Dnny for sending the data sheet for it. So I didn't go and mess it all up. I was fiddlin with it last night. Lotta fun. My friends supposed to give me a hand-me-down digi cam tonight (hehehe I can take pics of my DIY stuff) So I'll post pics ASAP.

Alright my friend game me an old canon S110. Sweet now I can take some pics of projects! I was going to put it in something else then I figured the clock already had a speaker and some holes. Then a little photoshop fun with a crapper disection voila. I still need to cut the front panel so when the LED goes off it will illuminate the crapper.

All right, be kind, here I am. Rockin my crackle box. My friends The Speedknobs went into the studio and I recorded some cracklebox on a hard rockin surf jam. When I get a copy of the CD I'll have to post it.

I've made many circuit bent instruments where I've simply connected the terminals from the speakers to audio out jacks that can be plugged into an amp and they seem to work fine and don't seem dangerous at all. How is the Cracklebox different ? What makes it dangerous to connect it this way ? Just curious. Is it something in the way the circuit is designed in it ?

Don't know about the danger aspect but you get bad-sound-ness-mess if you connect an audio out direct to the speaker in this case... Don't quite know why, but you do.!.

I'm probably the only person that hates these boxes. We had a noise fest recently out of state that I performed at and there was this joker with one of those boxes asking if he could perform between our sets (he wasn't on the bill). Then he proceeded to squealy squak it and I told him no. Later on, while another act was playing I heard this guy blatantly messing around with this crackle box DURING their set. Talk about very rude and annoying. He's lucky he didn't get mauled.
