mixing to Mp3

Could a slow or troubled internet connection interfere with the encoding process of an Mp3 to a website for upload? I have been having troubles with my connection lately. I have a very good recording of this Mp3 in I tunes but when I upload the Mp3 to my web page the beginning sound is a bit warbly. I'll upload it here as it will most likely do the same.

This upload is not as poor as the one to my new month old website at

no, I don't think so. the encoding is a process that happens inside your computer before you upload the song. |

| 80K is very low, it has been a long time since I experimented with low bit rates, but I think I decided 128K was the minimum usable rate for anything but voice recordings. |

There are several encoders that you can use. I have never compared them, but a few years ago I read that the LAME encoder is the best.
Another thing to experiment with is VBR (Variable Bit Rate). This is a mode where sometimes higher fidelity is achieved at a given max bitrate. In the past, some mp3 players have had difficulty decoding VBR, but the situation is better now. You can select VBR in the encoder settings. For most stuff, I don't use it...

IMO, mp4 files sound loads better than mp3 files and use up far less space (and therefore bandwidth?).
You need Quicktime. Some users here really dislike Apple/ Quicktime stuff, but I really don't get why

ogg files are better too, but if you are interested in the most accessable format, it is mp3.

Garbled start? Some older versions of QT ( the browser plugins that is ) will kinda start playing the file with a stutter.

Well, it's proprietary, closed source (and uses those two to create artificial extra layers of incompatiblity), only available for two OS's (neither of which has a acceptable policy on security fixes), it's hard to deinstall, sucks resources, is way too bloated, starts up with a "buy a more expensive version" nag schreen and if you're not carefull you'll end up installing I-tunes as well (which is likely illegal in much of Europe).
Does that cover it?
I don't know why people encode in those formats but I don't think it creates a good image of what you are trying to say and how you are trying to say it if you require people to use Windows Media, Quicktime or Realplayer, especially now that there's VLC which runs everywhere and plays many formats.
