This piece I call the Apartment Ledge. I created it with some field recordings I made one night in Johnson City, Tennessee. It's a urban soundscape made with Reaktor, Absynth and a Waldorf Q. http://users.chartertn.net/getpix/music/The_Apartment_Ledge1A.mp3 The next piece is rather long (6 megs). Desert March is made with a software sampler with layered sounds I created with other synths, Waldorf Attack, Reaktor and an Alesis Ion. http://users.chartertn.net/getpix/music/DesertMarch.mp3

Good stuff, man. I could go for it being just a hair brighter, but I like what I have heard.

Very nice pieces. Thanks for posting them. The first is a beautiful blend of the naturally recorded sounds and synths. It gives me a feeling of being there and then floating away to somewhere else. The second piece is quite enjoyable too.

You are all very kind. Thank you for your input. Here in East Tennessee there are very few people who appreciate this kind of music. This is the land of Country, Metal, Blue Grass and Southern Rock. When I play out with a group I'm in, we are lucky to have 5 people in the audience. So any kind of feedback is very welcomed.

This is the situation almost everywhere. One of the reasons I started this site was to help leverage the community we are starting to form. The first phase is to support and encourage each other. We are starting to see how this can happen, and we're starting to do it. The next phase is to cultivate an audience.

Hey Moho
Do you know Giles Reaves, Tony Gerber and the other folks at Space for Music? I believe they're in your area.

Nashville is four and a half hours from here (and in another time zone). I have tried emailing Gerber several times, but he has never answered. I like their music. I would love to know if there are any ambient-friendly clubs in the Nashville area.

Great to see all the positive comments posted. MOHO has a knack for combining the beautiful with the obscene, and producing some truely amazing soundscapes.

These are *very* good tracks Mohoyoho.

The Appartment Ledge: makes me think of the movie Blade Runner quite abit, I could definatelly picture this track in a movie with a similar atmosphere! The synths as of 3:30 and 4:20 are great! Great use of ambient sounds too.

Test: Very nice. The sounds 6 minutes into it are particuarily eerie (in a good way). And I absolutelly love the synths as of 8:28, beautiful! I dig the subtle bass you can hear at the very end of the track.

These are very good tracks, you should be proud! Keepers for sure. I haven't heard of a couple of the synths you mentioned, I believe I will be checking them out!

Thank you!

Thanks RFBB and Cloudscapes.

In Test (which actually is named Desert March) the synth you hear at 8:28 is an Alesis Ion. At 6:00 what I think you might be describing is VSampler. I took many wav files of different phrases from a variety of synths and layered them on top of each other. Each layer is heavily modified with filters and effects.

On Apartment Ledge I'm not sure what synths are doing what. I created it over a year ago. The one at 3:30 might be my Waldorf Q. The other sounds like it could be a Reaktor synth or a layer of different synths.

I created The Apartment Ledge with a vision in my head before sitting down to my synths. I originally envisioned standing on the ledge of a tall skyscraper overlooking a big city on a busy overcast day. But when I started making it everything sounded very close to the street. So I named it The Apartment Ledge which didn't sound so high off the ground.

mohoyo

i also enjoyed your music very much

altho, i am tending to agree with cyxeris that. in your case, some eq or maybe multi-band compression is needed to really bring out those sounds, which sound a tad muted

esp. in apartment ledge

i just did a quick eq while listening and found you have a lot of room to boost all freq's and thus making it more evocative and impactful

this is a positive comment i think, because it would actually be really cool to hear those tracks in their full sonic glory

nice ones

Yeah, I can certainly identify with that. You walk down the back streets at night and every bar emits the exact same C&W bass line. Up here though all the younger cowboiz listen to rap. Question But hey at least that's cultural diversity in action. And this is a college town! The only way we might perform again is if we got our funk/jazz band together (seriously). Yeah 5 people in the audience and one is the janitor waiting for you to finish so he can lock up. Very Happy

Really liked both tracks. Just looped them after they loaded. Particularly like The Apartment Ledge. I agree with Cloudscapes Blade Runner comment. And I think the eq is debatable. I see what Cyxeris & Sudden are saying, but... then again the more I listen, the more I hear subtlties that might remain subtle but more apparent with a tweak. But they're dreamy as they stand.

Thank you all. As to the EQ, could the fact that I have compressed these tracks at 64K have a bearing on the sound? I was just trying to keep the file size manageable.

Absolutely it could. Not sure about the effects on frequency response, as this has more to do with the codec used than the bitrate, etc., but all of these do have some effect.

yes good point actually

i think it is the 22khz sampling rate that is chopping some of the top of the brightness off

still a little beef-up with say, a multi band compressor, would make the sounds come alive and utilize the speaker more

esp with the events liek the train sound etc

not louder per se tho, just more 'more'

just my 2 cents for your consideration

I've been listening to these two tracks (and a third I found on your website) nonstop today. I'm totally hooked! Can one order your CD via mailorder if he or she isn't lucky enough to buy one at a live show or doesn't live close to one of the mentioned retail stores? Very Happy

This is amazing stuff! It's given me new ideas too, for my own music. (without actually copying of course Wink

I would be honored to sell you either my own CD and/or The Amaranth Signal's CD. They are $10 each. Amaranth is a collaboration with two other local musicians. Our CD is from a live performance. My CD is all done in the studio. My CD, "Chopped Logic" is a bit darker and spacier. It's very good to chill out with. Feel free to email a personal mail if you are interested.

You should talk to Mosc about making it available here.

I think I'll look into PayPal and send in some CDs. Do many get sold here at EM?

No, not many. Crying or Very sad

I'm hoping that as we get more artists we'll get more customers. We're going to do a compiliation project here soon; I just have to work out some of the details.

The numbers aren´t that bad really, but we have to set up a campaign of sorts in order to get more people here.

Hi Mohoyoho,
Checked out the tracks awhile ago but am just now getting around to
joining everyone else in the well deserved applause. Thanks for sharing.
The Apartment Ledge seemed to get more intense with each replay.
You know, catching sounds I didn't hear before.
This is well crafted. Keep it coming.

Ah, so I think that's why lofi mp3 at 32kbps sounds better with a lower sampling rate. Less brightness = less high end artifact noise. But yes, lower fidelity.

Have to say, your 64kbps encodes sound just as good as some 128kbps encodes I've heard.
