For that kind of money I would think the only thing you'll be able to get would be like a TR505. |

$30 will not get you much. Even a 707 is above a hundred dollars these days. |

right, I had forgotten about it. the HR16 was my main source of drum sounds for a long time. it was really nice with each sound separately tunable. _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

I'm not sure you're going to find that in one unit, but this might work for you: The Roland TR-505 mentioned earlier usually goes for under $100, and has a midi-out, which isn't a feature the lower-cost drum machines (ie: zoom) on the market. You can sync that up with a Yamaha SU10 - which is a tiny midi-enabled sampler.
I think you could probably get a half decent drum/bass/ sample set up with these for under $150. It won't sound like Aphex Twin or Chemical Brothers - but it'll work. If you have any other cash, I'd also invest an a cheap multi-FX unit for the TR-505 - and the sounds on it are not tweakable and can usually use some help.
Good luck. _________________ Reality is Subjective |

Is your MAC a laptop? or portable? Can you get all your sounds from samplers, VSTs, or AU on the MAC?
That'd save you a bunch of $$, and unless you need the hardware interface, you could do everything on the MAC.
At least, that's the cheapest way to do things. |

Don't forget about cheap QY-20 and similiar by Yamaha. They're just a simple music notepads with XG(?) sample set, but they're pretty usefull. 28k note onboard sequencer, MIDI IN/OUT, 8 part multitimbral and they go waaay below $100. Could work well as a drum machine, with sequencing possibilities. (AFAIK it works in pattern mode). |
