Hey friends,

A week ago my nord g2 made a funny humming noise, then went dark. I took a peek and the fuse had blown, but before I was able to replace it, I lost it. I went to radio shack and bought one I thought would work. After I installed the new one and turned on the g2, all the lights on the mic input were lit (freaked me out) and it had that bad humming sound.

So OK must have been the wrong fuse. I wanted to see if the fuse from my nord lead 2x would work. I installed that one and it made the funny humming noise and the lights on the mic input lit up in a bad way again and it went dark.

So now I have two nords with blown fuses. Can anybody tell me what kind of fuse to buy for my nord g2? Links? I asked Clavia, but just got a lame response from some guy reading off the back of the unit - 115V, 300mA, slow-blow. That doesn’t tell me what kind of fuse to buy. Here is a list from radio shack .http://www.radioshack.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=2032303

Can anybody help me?

Thanks!

Well, those are all 250V. Are you sure your power is 115V?

yes the power is 115V.

Can anybody in the US read off what the fuse says? I am trying to locate a replacement.

I don't think there's any harm in using a 250V fuse with 115V power so long as the fuse's current rating is correct. I believe that voltage ratings for fuses are maxima, not specifications; so when a fuse says "250V," it means that it is intended to work properly with any voltage up to 250V.

The point is that the voltage across the terminals of a fuse will always be very close to zero unless the fuse is blown.

I must have bought a fuse with the wrong amp. I bought a 2 amp, 250V fuse. there are amp powers from .5 to 8 or so.

Any ideas on the amp type?

1 amp = 1000 milliamps, so you need a 0.3 amp fuse.

Do not use a 2 amp fuse -- you risk making the problem much worse if you do.

Well, don't panic too much.

It may well be that something else is broken that will require repair, but such problems usually are repairable. For example, if all the lights on the mic input are on, it might mean that something is wrong with the mic preamp that is causing it to feed back and draw enough power to blow the fuse. If so, perhaps all that's necessary is to replace the mic preamp. That would presumably mean a trip to the repair shop, which would be a nuisance, but not as much of a nuisance as it would be if you try to run it with too big a fuse and wind up frying the power supply as a result.

THE FUSES ARE BLOWING FOR A REASON!!!!

There is something wrong with your G2. Just putting new fuses in will NOT fix the problem, you may make things worse. You need to get an experienced repair technician to check it out.

you were right varice. its the g2 not the fuses.

responce from clavia:
Hi
The G2 needs to be serviced, something has broken on either the main board or the power supply board.

The fuse spec for a US mains powered Nord is: 115 Volts, 300 mA. Nothing else should be used. I am sure that same service tech that can fix your G2 will be able to supply you with a fuse. Or, bring the old fuse to an electronics shop and ask them to sell you one that is exactly the same.

crap! i am taking it in to the shop this weekend. wish me luck.

Did you ever find a fix to this problem, or was the shop able to fix your unit.. My g2 is also blowing its fuses as well. I found the exact matching fuse online, but the same thing happened.

Now the Clavia site does not even list repair centers (I'm in Atlanta, USA)

The USA distributor for Nord products is American Music and Sound, http://www.americanmusicandsound.com/. They should be able to advise you about repairs.

Ya I just located a place by doing a way back machine search of the old www.nordusa.com/service.html

http://web.archive.org/web/20070522104722/http://www.nordusa.com/service.html

I called the local repair shop who mentioned that they get their parts from American Music and Sound.. So it looks like I have hit the right place. I'm going to take my unit there tomorrow.

I also just got a message from eposk who started this thread. He mentioned that it took a repair of the power supply to fix his. I'll update this post when I find out what it takes to fix mine for others reference since this seems to be a random but not uncommon problem.
