The USB should be a really great feature. I'm also pleased to have such a tightly integrated editor/librarian.
It will be intersting to see what else they manage to do with the wavetables. The demo was ok in this regard, but did not do that much for my ears. I have an XTk, so maybe my expectations are high?
The programmable arp is a huge interst to me. I already loved the arp on my Virus b. The "as played" mode is very inspiring at times. _________________ Sayer - Home Page |

I had very much thought about getting it but I guess I'll go for the used G2 engine. I'll let you know _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

The Virus provides much better analog-style (VA) sounds while the G2 (imho) is better at weird noises and sound effects. I was disappointed with the G2x sound character. I compared it extensively to the Nord Rack 2 and found it lacked the depth and edge of the older Nord, so I don't think it makes a very good VA. _________________ Sayer - Home Page |

The TI sounds insane. I listened to the sounds on the Access site and found myself thinking, "that's the sound I'm looking for!" Turns out all the artists that got me into the whole techno scene (which has got me wanting to get into the whole synth scene) use Access products, according to the Access website. I was first thinking of getting a G2, then some responses I got on this site directed my attention to soft-synths. patching would probably be a nighmare, but It'd be a fun nightmare, like running through the empty streets of your town at night while being chased by a giant pac-man who's trying to gobble you up. Eventually you'd learn the secrets of Modular synthesis and the frustration of making sounds wouldn't eat you up so much. But it's a lot to learn. The G2 sounds very good too and the flexibility of the modular aspect seems very promising and exciting, but I guess soft-synths would be more practical if you're new to synths. So then I was looking into a Novation X-station (as a controller) and Reason 3 as a soft-synth. But the TI beats the X-station in every aspect, except price. Plus, you can run sounds from the soft-synths (like a grand piano sample or a drum loop or any other sound you can get out of these programs) through the TI's filters and effects and what not. Incredible. Maybe I'll save up and get the polar. I know it cost the same as the bigger keyboard, but I'm not a pianist and I'm not going to be playing classical music, so I don't really see a need for it. I play guitar and my 22 fret guitar only has 47 distinct tones. And I barely even use the high registers, 37 should be fine. I don't know, I'll see how they both feel in the music store. I think the Polar looks cool with the white top and white leds--it would match my olympia white clapton strat. But I could care less, along as it sounds good. Portability is another factor. They both aren't too awful heavy, but the keyboard is big, whereas the polar is compact. There is also some concern about the future as the TI may not work as a plug-in in the major programs in the future (as the world of computers changes so fast). I wouldn't worry too much about that. Access has pushed this aspect as a major selling point (and it is an innovation) but previous Viruses didn't feature this and that didn't hurt their reputation at all. More importantly though is that the synth, in and of itself, is an improvement on previous Viruses (such as the indigo). Plug-in or no plug-in, it's gonna kick ass. It's also an ASIO audio interface. So the sounds are gonna get where they're going. The plug-in's just icing on the cake. Access went out on a limb and took this whole software/hardware integration thing a step further and I think it's gonna be copied by other manufacturers in the future. Plus it works with all the major programs now. Get them, get a TI, get rid of your internet service and create some music! _________________ I remember this like scenes from an old movie I saw long ago. Have I been here before? Getting into all the hype, I forgot to inquire about what led me to this post in the first place. Does anyone actually have a TI? I havn't seen any reviews on the web, there's nothing on harmony-central, the TI isn't even currently listed under the Access synth section in the reviews. My music store (Alto) doesn't carry them yet, though I heard they'll be in some time in the near future. I seen them on the Samash page. . .maybe I'll drive to the nearest samash store and see if I can play with one. _________________ I remember this like scenes from an old movie I saw long ago. The TI is not out yet. Access has it in beta testers hands. They are also programming tons of new sounds that make use of the new features.
Access could have rushed out an incomplete TI months agao and then done multiple OS releases to fix all of the problems, but they decided to get it right prior to releasing it. This is the best way to go about it.... I still have a Waldorf XTk full of bugs years after it was released too early and never completed properly.
BTW.... When it comes to VA and techno/trance sounds the TI will crush the G2. The sound character of the G2 does not make very good analog (or even VA) emulations. It is much better at weird noises and noodles. _________________ Sayer - Home Page |

There are probably a few hundred G2 owners on this site that would disagree with that statement. Sayer, maybe an IMHO or something would be advised. We don't want any flames or anything... _________________ --Howard

The Virus series are nice sounding synthesisers. The demos are so polished, though not so much this one. I thought the Virus has always had a wavetable oscillator, have they just added a new table of waves or is there something else special. Not one of my favourite techniques, wave tables always remind me of those awful early digital synthesis attempts.
I can’t seem to find the PDF manual. |
