That might work quite well.
Those virus demos are so polished.
I think it would be nice to have a box filled with everyone’s favourite synthesiser sounds, and lots of polyphony. |

I listened to those demos. They do sound pretty slick. It does sound like a collection of "favorite synth sounds". I guess for that reason I would avoid them. _________________ --Howard

The demo files are weird. It seems like Access is trying to sell the Virus to the polka board crowd. I have used the Virus myself, and it´s a mean synth machine. The signature sounds you get off the Virus are nothing like the demo polka medley.
Hmm.. what do I know. The sounds I got out of the PPG were nothing like what people would think a PPG could make at all.
My point is that the Virus is an excellent synth. I am not completely convinced about the UI layout though, but it is worth checking out. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Yes, I'm sure it's an excellent synth. I meant I would avoid the sounds, not the synth. _________________ --Howard

I think that is a good thing. Personally, I don't care who they try to sell it to, as long as the instrument itself is good. More sales means better product support.

I think there is a dark, warm, liquid quality to the Virus sound, which I like very much. I have always felt attracted to it.

The UI and the overall concept was the reason why I chose to go with Clavia synths and not with Access.
The Virus UI has a major flaw in that almost all knobs have multiple functions, but are conventional pots rather than rotary encoders. This means that when you flip from one knob assignment to another in order to attenuate parameters (eg. from EQ to FX), turning the knobs will make that parameter jump to where the knob is. Very silly design.
But maybe adding one of our good'ole Behringer BCR boxes could alleviate that somewhat.
When I said I like the Virus "sound", I didn't refer to those demo patches, I meant the overal sound quality. IMHO, the Virus algorithms are very well done and sound better than anything else I've ever heard in the VA department. The DACs are good too. |

I would like to finally get my hands on one of these, but I imagine with all the preorders out there, it will probably be months before one shows up in my town ... _________________ Jason Stanfield

I had my desktop TI yesterday. I could'nt boot up with the beta os. Finally fiddling with the booting up and the installation of the new os, it's awesome. Yes, it works in DP4.6 as AU. |

So I tried it today.
I must say, I'm very disappointed.
Oscillator aliasing was always the achilles heel of the Virus synths, being quite audible at osc frequencies which were still in a musical range. (I don't think we care much about aliasing dog whistles) Abd as much as I always liked the Virus otherwise, it's aliasing issues always kept me from buying on.
So you'd think that, with a whopping new DSP engine and 192kHz clocking, they'd manage to finally sort this out -but no: the aliasing is still exactly the same! And it's really bad. (In fact, it has reminded me how good the anti-aliasing algorithms on the Clavia G2 are.)
This issue might be not so important for many but it killed the TI for me. Uninteresting. Too bad. |

Whats with the huge number of maintenance updates? Each one starts with "improved stability and timing". Any TI owners out there? How bad is it???? |

This is really shocking. Too bad, indeed... _________________ --Howard
