It is with great sadness that I am giving up on this WSG project.
I can't fix this without your help so let's let it be.
I heartly thank all who tried to help.
I don't recommend this project to anybody.
Sorry Ray... it didn't work for me.
May you all have long and happy lives.
Cheers!

Hello!
C13 has been substituted with no change at all...
If I keep up at this pace I'll end up buying all components 2 times so I'm thinking of buying another PCB from Ray...LOL!
I give up!

Although I didn't purchase the boards I can verify that the board layouts on the website are correct. I've etched the boards and built 6 of them and all have performed perfectly. Do a continuity check between ALL points on the circuit board to ensure none of the pads have lifted and broke off. |

Howdy!
I have DEADicated some time to other things in the same vein and have recorded a piece on a Tascam cassette 4 track portastudio. I mixed down the "music" to a minidisc. How can I create an uploadable file so you could all listen to it... it is haunting me... and it will probably do the same for you...
I have the four tracks in the original format but I know I could never repeat this mix... a once in a lifetime event... please help!

Is easy
Play the mini disc, record it on a computer using a program like audacity, save it as an mp3 and attach it to a post here. _________________ Jan

Hello all:
Blue Hell:
I installed Audacity (Stable Windows Version) and somehow managed to transfer the "Music" from the minidisc to my PC. For some reason it didn't allow me to store it as an mp3...
So, I know it's inside the PC... I thought I had saved it but a search doesn't find it...
Maybe I didn't acually save it as a file and it is stored in memory...
I go to the Audacity screen and can play it so... can you tell me how to save it?
I won't touch Audacity (won't close it) until you or somebody tell me how to save it.
Thanks!

Hello again!
Well I more or less figured it out but I think the mp3 file is too big to upload...
Let's try...
Definetly not suitable for 56K!
Gotta shrink it!

Yup, finally
Sounds like you had a good time experimenting. Now where is that video of a WSG being thrown into the ocean? _________________ Jan

I hadn't looked at it for a while, but Ray has updated the WSG instruction page w/ the most thorough step-by-step troubleshooting tips i have ever seen! Another example of how dedicated Ray is to supporting his user community.
Kudos

I noticed those troubleshooting tips, I sure hope those who have had issues take a look at those. Ray is an amazing guy and he always seems to go above and beyond! |

We're back up !!! |

Hello all!
After having heavily punished my rebel and infamous WSG with the whip of indiference I brought it out of reclusion in the dark dungeon-like closet and powered it up again today and it seems to have a mind of it's own.
I have found a problem with Voice B.
Neither the Zany Frequency pot (R26) nor the Zaniness pot (R29) affect the sound at all, it's like the were not even there.
So I then decided to follow Ray's recently posted troubleshooting guide on his Music From Outer Space Website.
The first test (Oscillators) passed on both Voices.
However Voice B failed tests 2 (Wacky Frequency) and 3 (Zany Frequency). The pots do nothing (no oscillation changes).
I tested the diodes and they are both OK. I changed the IC 3 times with the same results.
After looking at the circuit diagram it seems to me that the only active component that could affect the function of both pots is transistor Q2.
Do you have any suggestion?
By the way, Voice A works OK I think... which makes me think I could troubleshoot this thing comparing both circuits... the question is... where do I start?
Thanks again!
TRO

Hello!
There was a cold solder problem in leg 1 of R29. Now Voice B is oscillating like Voice A does.
Thanks!
