Hello, cool site, I just joined the forum and would like to introduce myself.
I have been a fan of electronic music for quite awhile now (also love other styles as well) and have spent the last 5 years building up a home studio.
Hardware:
DSI Evolver
Alesis Ion
Korg MS2000r
Korg Wavestation EX
Korg M3r
Oberheim Matrix 6r and 1000
Paia Fatman
Moog Etherwave Theremin
Two homemade guitars (one set up for midi)
Fender Strat and Tele
Assorted guitars and amps and effects
Software:
PC Pentium 4
Cakewalk Sonar 4
Adobe Audition
Project 5
Orion Platinum
Energy XT
Native Instruments Reaktor, B4, Absynth
Tassman 4
Rhino 2
Cameleon 5000
VSampler
Z3TA+
Guitar Port
assorted freeware and shareware.
I recently completed enough tunes to produce a cd (just got to get off my butt and do it)
Music can be found here:

Thanks, Buffalo has an active music scene, even have an experimental music club on Chipewa St now. But I am not originally from this area. I grew up outside of Philadelphia in Cherry Hill NJ. Came here for my job at the Albright Knox Art Gallery. Where are you now?

Thanks mosc, actually collecting guitars for some time now, the synths are all new purchases (except the Fatman) I have been trying to keep the gear lust down but it is hard.

Actually I left to Massachusetts for college, and never returned. In Colorado now, a pretty neat setting of music/art.
Albreit is a great place...Buffalo was once a very wealthy town, and it gathered a bunch of art (& buildings) back then. |

I was in Massachusetts (Northampton) for about 8 years before I moved to NY. Loved it there, wish I never left. Great music scene there. Buffalo will do for now. _________________ Music is cool daddio |

| Hello. That is a fine collection of electronic music gear you have so far. I am curious, is your home-made MIDI guitar set up for the roland midi stuff or for some other gear? |

Yes the midi guitar is set up with the Roland GK2a pickup and I use the GR-33 guitar synth as a converter. I very rarely use the GR-33 as a synth altho the tracking is very good and there are a few presets that I like alot, it is just not real tweakable and I like the sounds from my other synths better. I am in the process of finishing a new midi guitar that will use a Graphtech Ghost system which I think is much better due to the fact that it uses a piezo bridge for better response. _________________ Music is cool daddio |

I've got a Les Paul Studio with a GK2A and a GR-33. I also have a custom Nechville MIDI Banjo that I use with the GR-33. I agree with you about the sounds, there are a few that are dynamite but most are so so. Do you use the MIDI out of the GR-33 to trigger other synths. I've found there are lots of extra notes that make the stream difficult to use on other synths. Have you done something with internal settings to improve this? _________________ --Howard

It varies from synth to synth. The Evolver responds best when I set the pitch bend to twelve but not all the presets are suitable for guitar controlling. My MS2000r also responds well (again setting the pitchbend range at 12, a full octave) and it seems to be the best at capturing notes with minor glitching, playing technique needs to be fairly clean. The Ion does not respond very well at all and I have not tried the Wavestation yet. One of the reasons I bought the Matrix 6r and 1000 was because it has the ability to send each string to to a seperate midi channel allowing for better response without glitching. Not fully experimented with that yet since I have been pretty busy since I got them. The roland pickup has some limitations that cannot be overcome easily, that is why I am getting the Ghost pickup. It is better suited for playing outboard synths. RMC also makes a similar pickup and has a good rep, they are used on Godin and Brian Moore guitars which I have heard are much better for guitar midi. _________________ Music is cool daddio |
