People will probably instantly laugh and i am aware that this product doesn't provide the same quality as the Clavia knobs. But there is actually a product that will get you an instant 24 continuous knobs with ledring for very little money.
Thi product is the Behringer BCR-2000 and it is reviewed as having a superb value for money ratio. It is very cheap (about 125 Euro in EU countries). Compare this to the 2000 Euro you pay for a G2 Keyboard.
[editor's note: I removed the attachment of the image of the BCR2000 and replaced it with a link. It's best not to use our disk space when not necesary. Thanks, mosc] |

hi, can a bcr2000 change the recall patches, etc. when used live on stage with an Engine without laptop ??? i'm waiting for my engine to arrive very soon... (coz i didnt have the money for the G2 Keys, since the Engine was less then half price i decided not to wait any longer....) i was thinking of the Korg Kontrol 49... which is close to 500euros though... what do you guys think ? |

Well i think that should be possible. Am not sure though.
I allready managed to configure 8 pushbuttons from my Novation RMT25 controller for changing the Variations. Next stop is trying to change patches of course.
But my guess is this should be possible, else you would would always need the editor for changing patches en the G2 Keys doesn't need the editor for this. So i don't see any problems doing this.
Have fun when your G2 arrives, i think you will like it |

Try a search through these forums, this has been discussed in detail.
It is definitely possible...the Nord Modular's great "claim" is to use your computer as a GUI interface, but when you go live, leave it behind. |

What about the new Korg Kontrol 49 (or even the microKontrol)? It's the closest I've seen to a G2 controller. 9 LCDS, endless rotary encoders and 16 pads that could probably be mapped to variations.
http://www.korg.com/gear/info.asp?A_PROD_NO=kontrol49
EDIT: Guess I should have read the thread more closely. The above would only be useful for those with an Engine who wanted a controller similiar to the G2 but cheaper. |

I can't figure why that image won't print, but that looks very nice. IMHO, controller design is the future of hardware, in music that is. _________________ --Howard

Very interesting... I notice that this product is exactly like what some posters in the NM list described in a series of posts about midi controller ideas.
They need a three axis joystick module and a theremin module.... _________________ Dave Peck |
