Had some unreleased stuff and some new things . thought it to be time for a new release.

Mainly the Euclidean Rhythms and the CSV data player, some changes on existing modules too.

WREN is about one year old now!

Current version is 2014.12.12.0

http://bluehell.electro-music.com/wren/forums.html

I've added PortAudio support, this makes the program much nicer to work with.

When PortAudio is used the latencies are lower, the CPU load is lower too (for a CPU with more than one core), the audio artifacts on editing or touching the program's title bar are gone too.

Multi channel works when ASIO is being used, for me at least (with Asio4all and the RME ASIO drivers, although I had to install Asio4All to make the RME ASIO work ... ).

Device selection still works so so and it is needed occasionally to exit WREN and to restart it to get it all working, but once set and working on a next startup it is all OK. I'm working on that still.

The next release will have a button to call up the ASIO control panel. As of yet I'm not happy with how I implemented that, but soon ...

There were some more changes, for one it looks better and you can color modules, and there are 101 module types available now.

Also tons of stability issues were ironed out.

edit : url update.

And a little demo track.

This is a WREN noodle using some samples, one of them spoken by Bubzy from here.

There is a little external echo and reverb on this one.

You grasp colorful virgins under the mud
Awaken! The Knave will come
translucent intangible
seeing the light
a phone ringing somewhere
With what regrets

Hmm .. I had some fuckups Confused

Wren would not start without an ini file present and it would not store the channel selections properly either .. this got fixed in the 2014.12.20.1 release currently present at http://bluehell.electro-music.com/wren/forums.html

Sorry for for that .. but hey .. you never tried it anyway, or you would have told me about it Laughing

You'll need to find sweet spots a bit for buffer sizes ( the default settings are not usable, usually).

When using PortAudio keep them shortish ... like 64 .. 512. For ASIO the size from the ASIO driver will be used, so pop up the ASIO control panel for that. For my RME thingie I needed to set 4096 and it still sucked .. so dunno about ASIO.

Latency will will be almost bearable, well for me it still sucks, but got a user quoting 4ms.

When using legacy mode use longish buffers, like 16384 .. 65536. latency will be awful .. like 1 .. 2s.

I never got it better than about 30ms here, MIDI to sound that is, 60ms on audio in to audio out.

I had high hopes on using PortAudio .. and yes it is like 20 or 30 times faster than legacy mode, but it is not quite like the 'couple of ms hey how bad can it be' idea I had in mind.

So .. might be usable for MIDI control, but as an FX device its still not nice .. yeah .. I played guitar trough it Confused

Maybe WASAPI exclusive mode will help, did not try that yet.

New version : http://bluehell.electro-music.com/wren/forums.html#dones

Some works on the sequencers .. chaining works better with the new SeqSeq module, step interpolation and reversal for chained sequences.

Added Talkie a retro style speech thingie with a list of about 1200 words it can say. You could make your own word lists for it too it seems, but I did not try that myself.

Also made a fresh source code release.

Mostly the audio rate oscillators are band limited now. Some other small changes too, like Talkie got expo FM control and got a bit easier to control.

Anyways, tri, saw and square oscs are usable now, with a lot less aliasing. Anti-aliasing works on PM, FM and hard sync modes too.

please see http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-64254.html for details about that.
