Version 2022.3.25.0 - and you can:
This release uses an installer - stiil - you must not install Wren in a µsoft owned folder (like program flies, desktop, whathaveyou). The installer may survive that though, but Wren still needs user writable files in the exe folder. The installer should warn about it _________________ Jan

HI, while trying to install last version my installation folder changed from C:\Audio\Wren to C:\bin\Wren
I reinstalled again to find the exe file because after the first install Wren didn't copied in the expected folder.
I think it may be corrected. |

Hi wikter,
Ah, so it goes a bit messy then ... saw you were in the chat too this morning .. I was still sleeping of course
Was it the first time you used the installer?
The current installer should - when you do an upgrade from within Wren itself (help menu) - install over the current Wren.
Howver, when the installer is used stand-alone (which unfortunately has to be done the first time the installer is used), it will not know where Wren is and you will have to tell it during the installation.
You can always solve the issue by copying all Wren files except Wren.ini to where you want it to be.
I'll run some tests here too ... later today ... maybe the installer could issue a warning or something when it can not find Wren, or show a dialog to help find the current Wren. _________________ Jan

Hi, it was the first time installed in this machine and I specified c:\audio\wren (and also created a folder to avoid folder owner problems).
I installed it again because I was unaware of where my files went to and again the program changed the path after the second step of the installation.
I did a third "try" after moving & running Wren from the c:\audio\wren
The installer did that c:\bin\wren swap again. |

Ah ok, thanks, I see what you mean now - it will indeed mess up the path and it has to be set again after selecting what must be installed.
And this is not what is intended - I will look at it. _________________ Jan

Ok, I've updated the installer (to version 2022.5.22.0) and remade the depending installs (for the full installation and the pre-release) to contain the new installer version as well.
And - oh miracle - it was not immediately false flagged by bitdefender as a virus this time. Maybe I should zip the installer better ...
Anyways, I hope this will fix it _________________ Jan

Blue Hell I have lost track and have a stupid question. Could one say Wren is sonically the same as Nord Modular G2? Or is it a do not compare situation. Thanks sir. |

Sure! One can say just about everything!
And nowadays .. oh damn .. let me keep plottix out - just be sure to vote the right thing . erm left thing .. next time
But anywway ... eh .. eh .. I've never tried to make Wren sound like a Nord.
Hmm and that is not 100% true .. just 0.327% or so ...the OSC1/OscPercCS module .. i've made that one listening to Nords!
So eh .. the short answer is : No _________________ Jan

amazing piece of work!
maybe I'll play around with it again someday, but I don't seem to get along with softsynths very well. |
Hah, thanks pho
And .. you know .. even when my apartment maybe is, I think, slightly larger than yours .. I do not have that amount of space that you have for hardware
Also .. the 2023.2.7.0 fix was not ok yet .. made a 2023.2.8.0 as well to repair inputs better _________________ Jan

Wren Subject description: Integrating Wren into my studio setup |
 |
|
Hi Jan. I have had some spare time to dig into Wren (though I first installed it a couple of years ago). I just upgraded to the latest version.
There is a bit of a learning curve for me simply because some of the module functions are new to me. However, the patching/interface is pretty intuitive, and I am already getting some nice sounds/textures from it.
I do have a question though ... I would like to send MIDI clock, start, and reset messages:
MIDI CLOCK F8
MIDI START FA
MIDI STOP FC
I tried to use the MidiPnOut module but was unable to get it to work for those messages (though it was transmitting MIDI).
There are other methods I can use but this would be kind of elegant for my application.
Many of the modules have statistical math functions and I can see how WREN can do some wonderful generative music.
It runs very efficiently on my computer (which is a late-model desktop) and it appears I can do some pretty rich things. I may have to "load it up" a lot before I max out the computer here.
Jan, thank you for creating this and offering it to the world. I look forward to using Wren on future work -- particularly on the quarterly streaming events here at Electro-music.com. _________________ -- Kevin
