Nice score!
BTW, I heard about R3FX from another DC musician, Pete Tran of Hume, Les Rhinoceros, and other bands. His own DL4 was modified by R3FX. _________________ Current and recent work on Soundcloud

Nice! Is it the studio or standard version?
I have never played one of those Bucketheads, how is it with the long neck?
I was looking at Gibsons with coil tapping and I looked at that and the traditional pro, those bucketheads are pretty rare though. I couldn't find anywhere to have a real look at one. |

It's the standard (the binding and the ebony fretboard are the tell-tale signs). The 27" neck is fine with me, I have no problems with the reach and the profile is less chunky than you might think. Having more room than usual between the higher frets is a bonus.
They're rather hard to come by, with probably less than 200 made. It's worth it though - the sound is amazing, and personally I just dig the attitude.
@ audiodef : Rosso is happy with it, I assure you Cool Gretsch you scored there, BTW

The pedal rocks. X/Y/Z + rotation per pedal, and tons of programmability.
However, I need to figure out the standalone mode and it's limitations: The editor they made uses MAX/MSP, and for whatever reason, it uses 858MB of RAM! Where have all the real programmers gone?! My Ableton WITH Max4Live doesn't use anything near that!!

858MB! Something must be wrong there surely!
I have been wondering about this pedal board, is the build quality good? |

Just downloaded the software, it uses the same stupid amount of ram here as well!
I tried loading the mfx file into max as well but it doesn't seem to run, probably some form of protection. It does use less ram though! |

I had one in my hands today. it looks solid, the demonstrator threw it on the floor to show me it's sturdy. I went to the website and saw a few demos.
The demonstrator told me it's easy to learn how to control it sending data on the xy axis and using pressure and rotation.

I'd say it's built very well, with the caveat that I haven't had it for more than a few days, and not travelled yet. It's very thin, and very light, so it doesn't need to be built like a tank as is the case of the FCB1010. Along what Carlo said, it's more likely to bounce than have to take the impact on the chin. And it has a little give to it. But there's really no moving parts, the 'pedals' are SOLID rubber. I should note it can slide into a rack in an empty slot, or it is less than 3U high, so I put it in my 4U portable rack flat against the other gear, then close the case.
Each pad probably has 4 pressure sensors (1 @ each corner). Because of that, and the rubber pad construction, the only drawback I can think of (other than the editor) is the fact that it's really helpful to wear shoes (or something with a more flat surface) to take full advantage of the various axis that are available. Playing with the ball of a barefoot is difficult to get the same effect, as you can then trigger an individual sensor of a pad, so a similar movement without shoes might result in a different output from the sensors. So at home practising, I wear shoes. For now at least. |

Does the RAM usage go down when you shut down the Softstep editor? _________________ Current and recent work on Soundcloud

| The RAM useage is gone when the editor closed. It doesn't require special drivers, and it can operate in 'standalone mode', without the editor running, but nearly the same functions and programmability. So the USB connection is just like any other USB/MIDI compliant Device (but has 2 ports: one with raw data from sensors, the other with decoded data for direct use by a DAW or whatever.) |

That sounds good then. If I get one and play live with Live, I'll just make sure I don't have the editor running. _________________ Current and recent work on Soundcloud

I recently got a back-up Repeater, which will also enable me to do 8-track looping, and a Korg KPR-77 analogue drum machine that's pretty fun for improv rhythmic stuff
