Shocked

They have these at my local fave venue. They swapped the original lights for these. Okay I can understand why (cheap to run, no heat, last forever etc), but the light these things give off look more like that of a TV set- ie cold (IMO). Just like energy saving lightbulbs, I personally don't like them at all Sad

I see wot you mean! I would NOT like to do anything spectacular with them, as they're not up to it, but as I mostly do acoustic solo stuff I don't need more than an indication that there's someone up on stage. And if the punters can't see me all that clearly, so much the better - I'm not pretty, y'know? Cool

I might be doing some ensemble recording soonish, so I went and got a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40.

Boss RE-20 Space Echo, to add a bit of grunge to my delays. Has nice reverb too, but it's a bit fiddly to get tempo delays in time

Yes I'd like an RE-20 too Smile

As for the tempo delay stuff, I think that this unit would loose its charm, or even its likeness to the original if it were to gain tempo lock.

Hey Jez, listen to Lee Scratch Perry's "Clock and Dagger Horns (Dub Mix)" - IMO, the best dub track EVER!! . Probably not entirely up your street- but hey it's reggae- the stuff where TD and all those other Krautrockers got their dub influence from Wink

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1lrqekwh10

It sounds like that horn section is also feeding a Shulte Compact A- judjing by that nice slow sweep Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

btw, to keep it on-topic, I just got an ancient (!!) Boss SP-505 'groovestation' thingie which has got the RE-20 built into it. I'll probably still have to get the real deal though. Smile

Funny that, I got mine because I was having fun with the tape delay built in my SP-404. It's a fair bit different. The reverb is nice

It has tap for getting in time with stuff, which is OK I suppose, but not great for using with sequences, where it's nice to time the delay to fit in the gaps

The dub thing was interesting, but the delay sounded in time to me

Laughing

Me thinks that the band was tempo locked rather than the delay!! Wink

But I bet you can't do that 'yanked tape' effect with the RE20 - like when the horn section breakdown comes- I live for that moment! Cool

I recently started taking my evolver to work and have been digging into programming in my lunch break after not really using it for a long time.

I have decided I like it so much I have just purchased another Smile

They should come in handy for drones/sequences and effects stuff for my compact live rig with the Nord G2 and Repeater

Yeah I use my PEK for that sort of thing. They're actually very capable instruments. And much more portable than a lot of my stuff...

I really fancy a PEK or PER, but I'm not sure whether you can really use them like 4 separate distinct evolvers.

Could you have the PEK set up so you can switch between editing one voice doing a drone, 2 voices playing layered sequences and the fourth a lead played from the keyboard?

Yes. It's not totally intuitive, but you can treat each voice as a distinct evolver (called "combo mode" on the poly), or you gather all of them together to make up four voice polyphony. If you have an extra evolver desktop, you can hook that in for a fifth voice, or another poly evolver for eight voice polyphony (no hooking in when in combo mode though).

/Stefan

'not totally intuitive' Wink

that sounds like it might be quite difficult then

Anyway, thanks for the answer, I shall have to do some more research Smile

Actually, I may be overreacting a bit... I've been having some trouble with the knobs on my PEK, so there are a lot of things that don't react in an intuitive way. Wink It works pretty well compared to a lot of other unintuitive things in synths, I think that there are some global settings that confused me a bit in the start, concerning the sequencers and how the voices react to the keyboard.

/Stefan (meaning to carry the thing to the shop - still have my warranty - but I don't own a car and it's such a pain to carry stuff around...)

Just read the manual for the PEK and it looks like what I want should be possible. Time to start saving Smile

For the money ( over here at least ) it doesn´t seem too evil. It does however lack sync in and out connectors, so it obviously doesn´t scale too well.

Thanks, right, but some of their other models do have sync. It's just that I'm not familiar with Focusright. Higher powers have recommended RME but they're not really in my price range. Need to keep it as far below $1000 as I can.

This dork does, and they're bigger than me! And now they play my instruments as well as their own. They do leave the modulars alone for now.
