Hugues, your remarks in this thread are unfunny and, frankly, offensive. No more trolling, thanks. _________________ Where there are too many policemen, there is no liberty. Where there are too many soldiers, there is no peace. Where there are too many lawyers, there is no justice.

No.
That's obviously what you want, so no.
Instead, I personally recommend a few days of contemplation here, before returning in a more composed and mature manner. _________________ ACHTUNG!

I used the V-Chip against myself
Hughes_bc, I used the V-Chip against myself, and now I can lead a more productive life without violent, racist, or offensive thoughts of any kind. I'm totally serious. You should try it- having individual thoughts will not get you anywhere. A trip to Disney Land would also help you achieve zen master status (although some of those Disney movies could use a V-Chip or two). Of course, racism in any form, even your "Jamacians" joke, will get you eaten alive among just about any group of people, with good cause. Jamacians are right on- we all know this. Come on now. Instead of nagging about this, this brings me to something more interesting! (Switch V-Chip to Off position) You can say whatever you want about "Americans" (which annoys me greatly), but your comment about "Jamacians" riles everyone's attention. This must be because we think everyone in Jamacia is black... is that ignorant in itself? Are the offended the offenders? Do Americans not have the right to be offended by anti-American commentary because we are of every ethnicity? Is the world taking away the right to identity and national pride by the lack of a definate racial majority? I invite anyone to justify all the America sucks this-and-that which goes un-checked without question. American is a basically a race, by the way. If you ask many American children what ethnicity or nationality they are, they will say "I'm American" and basically laugh at you. Not like, "Oh, i'm part this and that, blah blah blah..." No. A good 25% of kids will say "I don't know, I'm American" and mean it, not caring the slightest of thier anscestor's countries of origin. Just because American isn't considered a nationality quite yet, does not mean that we don't exist, and doesn't mean that we don't get pissed off just like everyone else. I mean, we all know that Americans are immune to offensive comments because we have super powers- this is all just a matter of principle. I get along perfectly fine with people who think completely different than me in every way. Freedom of speech does not exist in democracy- you have to give it up. If enough people don't like what you say, they can simply "vote you out"- excommunicate you from the church of the unified moral opinion- just like if you say something too "soft" among ruffians, you're a "wussy"- it's the very idea of ballance. As for speaking your mind pretty much anywhere, forget about it. Everything must be rounded off on the edges so you don't offend anyone. Among artists/ musicians in particular (this site), even the most jokingly violent or mildly racist comment is grounds for people to "freak-a-deek" out on you, whether you're in the wrong or not.

Rather than hide from these things, I find it refreshing to 'gaze into the abyss' now and then. It is a sobering experience between learning electronics and reading too much Dunsany.

I'd love to be an American right now. Land of opportunity. Did anyone see the front cover of the latest edition of Private Eye mag (can't get an image on Google- sorry, but here's a link)?
It seems to sum the whole British situation up! _________________ ACHTUNG!

Yes, but at least your government still believe that investment in R&D is a good idea. In Britain it is dead.
Take a look at this article about the proposed Dyson (Dyson who manufactures THAT vacuum cleaner) college
You Americans may have a recession, but your research is aeons ahead of us. _________________ ACHTUNG!

I'm still waiting for Obama to deliver on some of his campaign promises, but I am happy to report that he is plowing quite a bit of funding back into the National Science Foundation for research equipment purchases with an aim for preparing undergraduates and grad students to perform research. During Bush years a lot of NSF funding was bled away to Iraq.
I suppose we'll get another round of boondoggle "news" b.s. on stations like Fox for doing things like buying synthesizers and MIDI Chapman Sticks on federal money instead of pouring it into armaments and invasions where it belongs! But in the meantime, full steam ahead for my proposal to build a lab at our state university where students can learn to do embedded system research using audio and computer music as the vehicle. I'll know how this goes by November. _________________ When the stream is deep

If you're not too happy with America's right wing Canada is just a bit up north. Socialism is really popular over here, and we have laws for just about everything. They just recently banned smoking in rented apartments.
No kidding- I DONT need a .gov to regulate all of my life. Seems some people think that they should just pass a law for this, make a rule for that. without thought or consequence. they will sell it with "for the children" or "for the needy" and it will pass. Its a joke. and WE let it happen.
I watch local news only and check BOTH Fox and CNN. I see them lean heavily their own directions. I make my own decisions. It seems Amerika wants a nanny-state to take care of them. Wrong answer. Heck, I am not even opposed to some of the stuff the Obmanator is doing. I just hate that we want to "spread the wealth" to those that dont even try to lift a finger to accomplish something, or even work at all. There is ZERO reason I should have to pay for someone who chooses not to work. Note i did not say those out of job should not get help- I said those lazy slobs that sit at home and eat .gov provided cheetos and soda and watch tv all day- those that are perfectly capable of working.
I know this will irk some of you- and if you give me a good reason to think otherwise, I will listen but damn- I can only give so much...

I don't suppose anyone wants to do that except the entitlement frauds themselves. Just how big of a problem is entitlement fraud? I don't really know.
I do know that there is a rather stringent process that is required before a person is granted SSDI, for example. I feel that some people overestimate this freeloader phenomenon. It is easy to fall into the trap of believing that a significant portion of your taxes goes to such people, however the truth is that almost half of your taxes pay for defense. Then there's education, infrastructure, health care, etc. The problem is highly overrated.
Just take a look at this pie chart that I found on Google images. See how huge defense is and how small human services is? And the fraud is likely a small part of that thin little slice. It appears that there is little to complain about.
