After my second SL I think I'll try to build an ASM-2 Cool if the PCB is still available...
Confused

First I wanted to build an ASM-1 but the PCB is discontinued...

The ASM2 is the synth I've almost finished!! Laughing
It's been sitting waiting to be finished while I do all this other stuff. Rolling Eyes
My board is finished (almost) I just need to finish the front panel.
I was thinking of putting the ASM2 board into the Baleani box with the SL and having one keyboard running each.

No, I just got the PCB when he first released it.
Mine has some errors on it, but they're easy to fix.
The new one is heaps better.
I also got a MIDI to CV board which I haven't even started!

I wonder if it worth buying the whole kit... it is a bit expensive, but you get all the PCB-components...

here is a dronebox 01 that has been build by dach.

have you built a WSG?
have you also built a WP20?

cool!!! now it's time to put the two things together...

install this simple mod on your WP20 and connect your WSG...
it adds layers of cool sounds...

and when your sound lab will be ready to go, install an audio input on it and connect the WP20+WSG...

would you guys call it a "cascade synth"?! Shocked Very Happy

ladislao

P.S.: I forgot to say that I got this mod from the mighty Alan McKerchar!!! Thank you Alan!!! Very Happy

i'm a complete newbie and would like to build the WSG as first project (hopefully with a sound lab in my future).

i've been reading up on etching and will probably try to make a pcb from ladislaobiro's designs this weekend. (thanks for the design and thanks for the scaled PDF version, y'all.

does anyone have a parts list with part numbers? i'm trying to get together an order from mouser or all elect. and have some very basic questions. like, does voltage rating for caps and resistors matter?
there are thousands to choose from with the same ratings and i don't know where to start.

sorry for the cluelessness.

http://www.musicfromouterspace.com/analogsynth/YOUR_FIRST_SYNTH/YOUR_FIRST_SYNTH.html

This has the parts list. Don't forget to read any additional info related to the design you're using, especially if you are planning on adding a LED light and a Volume knob, etc.

I ordered all my stuff from Mouser.com.

Ordering parts from Mouser (especially) can be a little overwhelming.
They got so much sh#t. Use the parts list for the sound lab that Ryan
Bocock made as a cross reference http://www.musicfromouterspace.com/analogsynth/SOUNDLABMINISYNTH/soundlab_price_break_down.htm
or here is a gents stompbox site who uses all mouser part #'s just click on any of the pedal projects and at the bottom will be a link to a parts list
http://fuzzcentral.tripod.com/

I made a WSG from the pcb. I have to debug mine somethings not working right, but I know the layout is working and verified.

Generally,
A capacitors voltage rating should be double the supply voltage. (or at least 1.5 times if it's on the edge)
Unless the circuit specifies higher, resistors can be assumed to be 1/4 watt versions. Go for 1% if readily available and same price. Otherwise 5% will probably be OK.
Any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.
Also check all of the MFOS site. Ray has included heaps of handy info and reference sources.

I would also like to build the WSG as my first project. I have a question about Lorenzo's PCB and the switches he used. First of all, what do the switches do and what kind are they? Thanks for the help.[/i]

Lorenzo made his PCB based around two DPDT PCB mount toggle switches. (because it's very easy to mount these directly to a PCB)
S2 switches both sides of the battery. (the schem only shows a SPST on one side of the battery. (either way is fine)).
S1 switches in the Wackyness, and uses one half of a DPDT as a SPST.

Here are the terminals on a DPDT
A D
B E
C F

B is connected to A or C. E is connected to D or F.
A,B&C are isolated from D,E&F. They act as two separate SPDTs
A&B alone would be a SPST.

Hi all. I'm a complete newbie who thought I'd give the WSG a try. I received my parts a couple of days ago, and was amazed to see that the CD40106 is no more than about a cm. in length! I'm confused as to how to even wire the little bugger. Did I order to wrong thing? Any and all help would be much appreciated.

Hello gilintx! welcome to electro-music.com! welcome

Sounds to me like they've given you the circuit mount version- bummer! You can use that, but it could be a bit of a f**ker to get the wires to solder etc. And by that time you probably will fry the chip- it being CMOS!

You need to specify that the chip is a DIL type!- go on get yer credit out again Sad

Thanks, Tom, for the quick reply and the hearty welcome! It looks like my LM741 has the same issue as well. Do you think you could recommend some place (preferably in the US) to order the DIL type chips? I've been poking around on mouser.com but frankly it's pretty confusing. Thanks again for your help. I'm really looking forward to learning more about all this fun stuff.

Gil,

Cool! Well you've come to the right place here :D - I'm not that up on distributors in the USA- best person to ask would be the Wild Zebra :) Through years of grazing on arrid soils on the great American plains, he has found the best watering holes and oasis' of components! PM the Zebra and he will answer u (eventually! :) )

OTOH- you could just try this list (from our great leader's page)- http://www.musicfromouterspace.com/analogsynth/partslinks.html

Thanks

Gil try www.futurlec.com some people on the stompbox forum I visit have had mixed results, but they haven't done me wrong yet. They have some cheap stuff too. 50 cent pots whoa!!! I bought my I.C.s for the wsg there. They also have assortment packs that are nice for a beginner caps, resistors etc. for like 3-4 dollars for a hundred or so. As v-un-v says use that parts list a reference. If you have anymore questions or if futurlec doesn't appeal to you feel free to PM me.

Just wanted to say. I pulled out my WSG. It didn't work so it was time to fix it Embarassed Looks like I had a bad trace. Working like a charm now. COOL. Figured I post to tell all the new kids that have been visiting. Mistakes happen and its usually something simple so be dillagent, ask questions, and buy a magnifying glass

Yes, fault finding is definately an art.
And sometimes an artist stands back and takes in the big picture.
Being too close to the work can sometimes blind you to the real problem.
And yet, sometimes, like this one, you need to get closer!! Wink
I never spend very long trying to fault find electronics. I find that if the problem isn't easily fixed in 5mins then I need to look at a completely different possibility. Sleep on it. Listen to some music. Sometimes this will lead to a solution which you would never thought of. Sometimes it will lead back to the same place but there'll be a neon sign there that you didn't notice before.
I think I'm starting to ramble! Confused

First, I must apologize for the quality of the pictures. The mp3 file is a collection of some interesting sounds, not a realtime recording (I'll think you'll realize that with the fade ins/outs, though). I'll tidy up the case when I get around to it.

I have it all posted on my friend's site:

http://27b-6.lathan.org/?q=node/17&PHPSESSID=6ae62d2fadf0d16735e46c511fe7807a

Thanks to all who made this possible (it was my first time soldering EVER).
