2008 show and tell. Subject description: Let's see what you've done this year! |
|
|
Here's what I did this year. Ok, I kinda cheated. I started last November, but due to delays I had the first module up and running in January.
Great big thanks to everyone who asked/answered questions and those who made these awesome projects available!
Module list: (left to right)
Bottom row:
PAIA midi2cv (never use it, think I'm gonna chuck it to make room for the appendage ), MFOS VCLFO x2, MFOS dual VCA, MFOS VCO x2, MFOS noise cornucopia, CGS Psycho LFO, MFOS 24 db lowpass, MFOS multimode filter, Dual MFOS sample&hold, Dual MFOS ADSR, MFOS dual VCA.
Top row:
Wiard Wogglebug #3(with disturb mod)/Dual Buchla VC portamento, Dual Buchla 281/CGS analog logic, CGS Digital noise/pulse dividers/boolean logic/XOR XNOR/Analog shift register, CGS Gated comparator/burst generator, CGS VCO, Bridechamber BiNtIc/Tellun switching comparator, CGS suboscillator, Bridechamber wave multipliers/real ring modulator, Ian fritz 5 pulse waveshaper/Mankato filter, Fonik PS-3100 resonators/CGS cascade mixer, Tellun neural agonizer, dual CGS Tube VCA/Mixer.
P.S. In case anyone is wondering about the colored jacks, they are just the regular switchcraft type spraypainted
Red = Logic input
Orange = Logic output
Blue = CV attenuator input
Purple = Unattenuated(V/oct) control input
Pink = CV Output
Green = Audio input
Yellow = Audio output
Grey = Universal processing input
White = Universal output.
P.P.S. You can see a video of my latest patch here. There are also several others showing the synth in various stages of construction.

Beautiful work! I just built the wogglebug #3 and I love it. What is the "disturb mod" that you mention? |

Cheers for the comments guys. I had a blast building it. Now can we just put the new projects on hold while I clear out the backlog?(twice as much as what it in my synth now)
About the woggle disturb mod, everything you need to know about it is contained in this post by stegoman. _________________ " I went through quite a few trannies til I found one I liked" - Wild Zebra |

Wow, this machine has turned out incredibly stunning!! GREAT work! The colored nuts/washers look incredible, and I love the overall shapes created by the knob arrangements across the modules as you've arranged them.
Were all the panels done by frontpanel express? |

Nope, just blank panels from the local metal shop and ID mark photosensitive aluminum on top. Cost a total of $10 per 2U panel. I reckon that saved me $1500-$2000 vs. Schaeffer

I'll see what I can dig up.
They are still kinda blurry, but it's the best I can do with my inferior equipment/skills

These are some of the nicest panel designs/ graphics i've seen. I really like how for some, you've combined 2 modules. Well done! |

That is just totally awesome. Now I want colored jacks....
Forum etiquette question - for a similar type show and tell post of my stuff - do I start a new thread, or add on to this one? My stuff isn't nearly as cool looking... |

Doesn't matter to me, as long as the gear porn keeps getting posted _________________ " I went through quite a few trannies til I found one I liked" - Wild Zebra |

Ok, here's mine. Here's a pic of the whole rig - actually large chunks of it are from earlier than this year, but the top cabinet was built this summer, and it's been a busy year for me, so I thought it'd be easier to post the whole thing.
What I built this year - in the top cabinet (all Synthtech MOTM), one of the 300 vco's, one of the 800 eg's, all the eg's got Tellun DB-800 boards added and the led's added, and the 830 mixer on the far right (Paul finally sent me the kits he owed me for 2+ years)
Middle row - the klee sequencer, the Mankato filter, and the MFOS sequencer.
Bottom row - MFOS sonic multiplier, wogglebug, CGS/Bridechamber analog computer, and the Thomas White/Buchla Resonant Lowpass Gate.

More great work. I like the colorful panels like the LPG.
I seem to have a thing for colorful accents on modulars (Buchla, Serge, you two gentlemen).
Hopefully I'll have something beautiful to share someday. |

Good stuff! Color = Win.
I see you were wise enough to leave some space on the edges of your cabinets. I had to spend several days filing down all my panels and it's still a tight fit.
How are you liking the Klee/MFOS seq tagteam? Those ones are both coming to the top of my backlog soon _________________ " I went through quite a few trannies til I found one I liked" - Wild Zebra |

It's a great idea to have things like the Weird Sound Generator in a modular format. I'm going to do the same thing with a shortwave radio (best noise source ever!). |

I actually hardly ever use the MFOS sequencer since I built the klee - the klee is a much deeper instrument, and the MFOS just seems like a toy next to it. However, I'm sure I'll find uses for it, and in the meantime it sure looks nice.
Ditto with the WSG and the wogglebug - the wsg makes some nice noises, if you wiggle the knobs a lot, but I haven't found a use for it in the context of larger patches. Yet. One thing I'm very guilty of currently is spending more time building that playing with the things, which will change eventually.
I've (currently) got enough backlog to fill one more 1u cabinet, and then I think I'm going to have to cut myself off and actually play the thing. A little. One step at a time....
Oh, and Neandrewthal, - the bottom cabinet is currently in it's second incarnation - the first time I built it I mismeasured and it ended up being 23 1/2u wide. Maddening to me as I had a ton of these nice 6u rack rails. I found it easier to rebuild the thing than to try and live with a badly built cabinet. It's a sickness, no? |
