Luka--nice looking panels. Did you wind up etching them?
Thanks Scott. I appreciate you sharing your tap points and input mixer. cheers!

99% done with my 291. This is the original Verbos dual layout. I need to re-wire it, it's a rats nest right now... but I was anxious to get it up and running:

A 1000 pF (1 nF) will do you just fine.

1 ohm resistor or a ferrite Bead. You can use either resistor or ferrite bead type (two needed )(ferrite bead allow better filtering if you have 'noisy' modules on the same supply). |

I'm sure you did and I missed that part of the thread (I drift in and out of consciousness now and then); I'm glad it didn't zap you in any case. _________________ My Site |

To Luka and Photon:
I just want to confirm that Luka's PCB layout works as in, with no modifications needed?
Thanks! |

My 2 291s, which were built about a year apart behave completely different from one another. The first is quite tame and nice, while the second is a wicked beast that just loves to overload and distort in the worst/best fashion. Gonna be building the last one in 2010, and hope that I can dial it in to be very much on the money with Buchla, then I will have 3 kick ass filters from the same design.
It looks like by the end of next year there will be a lot more Buchla cloning than anyone previously imagined possible. Cant wait. |

same here
one is really aggressive the other is a bit more timid, i might change the vactrols the timid one
LetterBeacon i might be etching some more 291s next year so ill change the layout a little to fix the kludges and change the mods a little. i didnt use the processor, instead i set up opamp to buffer and mix the filters to run in parallel model, perhaps making a vero board arrangement might be more handy _________________ problemchild

Excellent, I'll hold off etching the current PCB for a bit then. |

I also built a dual filter using Luka's layout. I'm pretty new to DIY and the project, including the kludge in the output buffer, was pretty easy. I love this filter. My filters behave quite similarly, with maybe a bit of difference in the gain trimmer settings. With the LP and HP taps, this is my ideal multimode. I knew that I wanted a vactrol-heavy modular, but now my appetite is insatiable. I want to build the Music Easel balanced modulator and I'm still hoping that someone will do a layout of a properly functioning vactrol panner.
Thanks to Luka, Scott, Mark and Don for the 291! |

Thats interesting to know. Are the kludges needed documented anywhere? |

Luka sent out a diagram to the people using his boards. I believe that it was a simple matter of swapping pins 2 and 3 on the buffer IC. I suppose that you might as well wait for the layout to be redrawn, but it's not a big deal to correct it yourself if you can't wait. |
