Thanks for the info on the white envelopes. I'll start reinforcing the edges when I start shipping again.

I'm on a bit of a vacation here in the Bay Area and won't be able to do any more shipping until I get back on Dec 8. Sorry.

Anyone in the Bay Area that would like to get together for a visit, just send me a PM with your phone number and I'll give you a call.

hey Rykhaard this is great information for me , i was just thinking of using some of those piezo transducer but i dont know exactly how..

Well - I know a LITTLE bit more now than I had before. All of my previous uses of piezo's, were into Alesis trigger to MIDI converter units. So this is my first time using them in the analog world. Smile

The circuit at Ray Wilson's Music From Outer Space site that I provided the link to, is a wonderful circuit!
Ray shows exactly how and where to hook up the piezo to the circuit itself. In this case, I followed Ray exactly, using 3 x 10 meg resistors across the + and - inputs to 1 of the opamps. The piezo is connected to each of the + and - inputs as well. (1 of them is going to Ground; so is the piezo connection and 1 end of the 3 x 10 meg resistors.)
This provides a 'load' for the piezo so that it wont freak out at too high a voltage coming through it. (IF, I'm not mistaken.)

Quote:

it also brings so many questions like where do i connect it? to the "trigger in"?(also what is the "triger in" used for in the mps?)

The Drum Trigger circuit from Ray, provides you with a Trigger Out (which you would hook up to the Trigger In, of the MPS) as well as a pair of CV Outs. The CV Outs are the 'intensity' of the drum stick hit upon the surface that the piezo is connected to. The harder that you hit it, the higher than the voltage initially is from the CV Out. (The CV Out, is outputting the Decay voltage from the piezo, which is picking up the drum stick / etc. hit.)

I hope that helps. Smile I can't wait to get more pads and my 2 x MPSes built! Very Happy

So I got my MPS together yesterday, took quite a while, but still managed it in one day (+night).

First off, I really want to thank everyone that was involved in getting this board together. Its a super cool project, and incredibly well designed, like all TH designs I've looked at. Bugbrand's diagrams and panel design were especially useful and saved me hours. I used that panel as a starting point, and added in a spring reverb module. Here's a post on my blog with links to the flickr stream, as well as an mp3 of the thing in action:

http://voiceofsaturn.blogspot.com/2008/11/thomas-henry-mega-percussive.html

One question, on the wiring diagram, there is a jumper 21 for optional filter CV input. Was this omitted from the final pcb design or am I just missing something?

-Travis

Yes, connector 21 was omitted for the final PCB layout. The official PCB has no other CVs except for the shell. Bugs picture includes it, as it was still there when we were prototyping the boards.

Got my boards today - thanks Howard!

They arrived in that scary envelope the usps uses when they've trashed your mail - I opened it in dread, but only one corner was ripped up, and the boards were fine. However, I strongly advise yellow padded mailers for sending virtually anything that's remotely breakable. I've never had a problem with anything shipped in them.

Got my three boards and agree, the padded envelopes would be better. A trace on one of the boards got damaged but not beyond repair. The boards had cut right through the paper envelope adn were exposed. The mail service put them in another envelope. It's all a learning experience so no big deal to me. Just lending advice. Thanks Howard for your work .......

Here you go:

Hope it helps.

Recompas - that's nice work!

Sorry I haven't had time to get involved recently - when I get a moment I would like to add some comments etc, but things are busy for me... From what I remember we had a lot of discussions about 'hot-rodding' during the testing but I can't remember particulars. I also haven't seen any of the documentation that comes with it -- probably things changed a bit since the schems we built with.. I don't know!

Anyways, nice work indeed (both in the builds and the providers!)

Hi guys,

I really really really would love to build this MPS (the sound samples I've heard sound really superb). I'm a beginner in electronics though so I was wondering if threre is a wiring diagram for the MPS. I know there is one by bugbrand but I'm looking for one without the extra CV inputs and with 1/4" jacks. Just the basic MPS so to speak.
(guess I'm spoiled by the MFOS guides)

to bugbrand: I noticed in your wiring diagram you changed one 10k pot to a 100k pot. Is this correct and if so wich one is it?

hope you wizzkids could help me out.
Thanks

hi all Very Happy
i would like to ask you guys as well (bugbrand ?)
what are the parts changes that has been done in the bugbrand design
when comparing it to the original list?

and what kind of switch should be there if there is a problem with the trigger mode switch? (where is the 10m resistor that you added?)

and one more question:
if i want to use the impact the shell and the noise together
do i need a multiple out cv controller to use the bugbrand design?

i cant wait to build the mps!!
thanks

The board arrived today, white envelope - all good, It actually was in a better shape then boards that arrived in large cardboard envelops as this time my mailman just slipped it into the mailbox and didn't try to push it through. Very Happy

I 've come back yesterday from 2 weeks in Eritrea. This morning I found the white envelope with my two boards ! I don't know when it arrived but it was ok. Thank you again mosc, thomas henry, scott stites and everybody involved for your work. I can't wait to build it. Everything is ready now. I think I was waiting this moment from the moment I hearded the first sample 8 months ago !
Cheers, t

There are clues lying around in fairly obvious places. The first post of this thread starts with a link to the store for purchasing the boards. Go there, you'll find a link to more information. Hope that helps.

My hunch is that this project will wake up again after the holidays. Aside from the usual distractions it looks like people are trying to clean up other half finished projects before taking on another big wiring job.

That's where I'm at! Laughing
I just managed to clear my bench! It was a foot deep from end to end with tasty things! (I had a load of stuff donated to me by an elderly computer technician (including an Hitachi 20Mhz dual trace CRO! Very Happy ))
Now I'm in the midst of wiring/testing a prototype of the Liquid Hi-Hat, and my Appendage should be turning up next week!

Me too! Getting the MPS boards in the mail after being so excited about them for the past year has given me the courage to jump back into my backlog of projects. Smile I'm hoping to build my two MPS modules sometime in January, to go in a row alongside my Clangora, UD1, Cynare, and (in the future) two Simmons SDS3 modules. That should make a pretty killer 7-Voice drum machine.

Another in the me-too chorus... I have a whole bunch of Haible projects to complete before starting this one...

Is anyone offering UD1/Clangora/Simmons PCBs? I looked around a month or so ago, but promptly forgot to finish mysearch because of the holidays.
